Panasonic DMC-FZ1 quote at DCResource

Hi Everyone:

Here's a quote that I found at DCResource.

Panasonic is showing four new cameras at PMA, two of which I mentioned back in January.

Those "old" models are the DMC-FZ1, a 2 Megapixel camera with a whopping 12X optical zoom lens with image stabilization. It will be shipping any day now for $449 -- and yes, I'm working hard at getting one for review

Two things that are important here. He says "It will be shipping any day now" and "yes, I'm working hard at getting one for review". Hopefully, these two points will be a reality, like, this week. We can only hope.

I've already inquired about this camera and I was told "we'll get it about 2 months after it goes on sale in the US". Oh well, these are the struggles we have to put up with in Canada.

The black one is pre-orderable on Amazon now... But I haven't clicked-through the pre-order, so I dont know if other messages come up....

We really din't need such assumptions.

FYI, some dealers have received samples and at the PMA show I understand Sales announced that we will be shipping throughout the month of March a the product arrives from Japan.

It's real, it's going to be available in the U.S. and I suspect that limited quantities may already be available.

Please don't ask which dealers have them as I have no way of dertermining that. We do appreciate all the understanding and positive comments that have been received!

Panasonic Bob,

I appreciate your helpful hints regarding the FZ1. Though we may seem harsh on you and Panasonic sometimes, it's because we are so eager to check this camera out. It has very good potential and the price is cheap for what we're getting.

I, for one, will be purchasing one soon after they go on sale in the US. I just need to sell my C700 first to get some extra cash.

Thanks again for assuring us that this camera will be released in the US. It's nice to know that a few people from the camera corporations actually care about their market and take the time to post on this forum.

Can you confirm now that reviewers (Phil Askey/dpreview, steves-digicams, imaging-resource, et al) have gone through 'proper channels' to request review samples? It would be a shame to have the same problems occur now, as with the LC5....

Since I am in Engineering I have no direct communications with that group that arranges for evaluation samples. I have stated in the past that requests from this web site MUST be directed to Panasonic in the UK. Our US office cannot deal outside our specified area. Despite several attempts to assist, my requests fell on "deaf ears." If Phil is reading this, PLEASE contact me and I'll again try to put you in contact with the right person in the UK.
