--Excellent Photos, Very Good site...But Please get rid of that iratating music.....You Don't need Music on your site....

You see, some peeps (like me)(there are many) will have the sound turned up, (cause they forgot to turn it down) then late at night when we click on a site such as yours, Our Neighbours get woken up,or the kids get woken up because your Music comes Blasting in....Very Annoying.....Hope you don't mind me pointing this out.....(just my opinion)

Wonderful photos, I am in the market for an all around camera but the one thing I want to be able to do is capture my kids at sporting events, primarily soccer which is not easy without a zoom. I was amazed at the Sports shots, were these all taken with the S602?!...Did it require a lot of fiddling with the manual settings?...at this point i figure if you can capture motorcycles, soccer players shouldn't be that hard!...
thanks for posting

Ken

All the photos on my site, except the summer waterfall, were taken with the S602. Sports is not a problem with the 602, but for best results, switch to manual focus and manual exposure. This will speed up the reaction time of the camera. Also if you hold down the shutter button half way, to lock the exposure, as you pan with the action you will have virtually no shutter lag. May sound like a little bit of fiddling, but it really isn't at all. These motorcycles were moving at +75mph so I don't think you'll have any trouble with soccer. However, you may want to experiment with the shutter speed to get the effect you want. I use 1/400 to 1/1000 sec depending on the amount of speed blur I want.....

If you decide on getting the S602 feel free to come back here or email us for any tips or tricks we might be able to help you out with....

ok. i'll play devil's advocate.

many of the pics looked washed out... they look like they are in need of some serious 'curves' manipulations in photoshop.

with contrast and colour enhancement, I am sure that they would look terrific.. but as a potential buyer of the 602, these 'out of the box' pictures concern me... i know that all-in-all, this camera has superb features.. and maybe you just have to learn how to manipulate the settings... ... in any event, the compositions show that you are very capable photographer.. no matter which camera you use.

As for the pics that seem washed out I suspect that maybe your monitor is not adjusted as mine is or you are just not familiar with shooting in snow, harsh light and snow dust.

I am also quite adept at PS curves levels and such when an image requires it and ONLY when needed, but I do not depend on it to replace BAD photography. To verify the colors, curves, levels and exposures, theses images posted, have also been printed out.

As for your "out of the box" statement and learning to use the camera, Buddy that was totally uncalled for and I certainly don't agree with you.

Thank You for the compliment......

Mark~

Thank You for bringing this to my attention. I have fixed the problem with the Misc page, however, there are no images on that page as of yet. There is no problem with your computer and thank you for reminding me about the back buttons ( one of those little jobs I had not got back to). There are a couple of the pages that don't have images yet and so I will remove the links to them until I have my images organized....

Thanks Again....

Jeff
... there's a back button on the Sports page and not others and the
Misc link just puts MISC in the title of the Home page and nothing
else happens,
is this MY combination of IE6, XP,Zone Alarm & Popup Stopper or a
problem with the site.
Keep up the good work.--
regards, Mark: )

hi,
As for the pics that seem washed out I suspect that maybe your
monitor is not adjusted as mine is or you are just not familiar

  • i don't think it's my monitor. as i am looking to buy a cam i scan thru dozens of galleries. and see similar scenes which are more vibrant.. it;s just that i was just looking at a tutorial on 'curves' (site escapes me at the moment).. and they show pics similar to some of those posted. they noted the 'before' pics that the photos 'looked washed out and flat". It struck me when i saw some of your pics that I was seeing the same overall washed-out/flat situation until postprocessing brought out the 3d effect.. (just some contrast ...etc)...
As for your "out of the box" statement and learning to use the
camera, Buddy that was totally uncalled for and I certainly don't
agree with you.
  • I only meant that one has to 'learn' how to make great pictures by trial and error of modifying camera settings or setting up custom procedures in after-processing. I did not mean to imply that YOU should learn to use your camera. Some cameras require more post-=processing than others...
i don't think that is a problem for people who have the time and patience to play with photoshop etc... but may be problem for those who just give their memory chips to a photo store to print 'as-is'

so please don't take offence.. maybe it's just my oppinion on how i see the pics...

OK Stephen
Maybe we just got off to a bad start...

I would like to add that the S602 is well capable of "out of the box" fantastic images in normal lighting conditions, but the camera itself my be overwhelming to someone who is not familiar with the technical aspects of photography. I certainly would not hesitate to take my memory card in to a photo store to have the images printed.

One must note that in particular, the motorbikes on ice are a challenge, an extreme lighting situation that even the better latitude of film cameras have trouble copeing with. The dynamic range of all digital cameras has not yet reached that of film, but it is getting there with the new SR CCD. Still, as a 35mm camera photographer for many years, I am impressed with the quality the S602 puts out.

If anyone should have any questions about my images and why they turned out as they did, just ask away.......

Agreed.

in any event, the s602 is now in my number 1 spot for potentials. The contrast saturation thing is easily fixed in post-processing. your sports and animal pics prove to me the capabilities of the camera.

since i dont like to carry/wear my glasses with me all the time, i am interested in the EVF. since 95% of my pics are under well lit situations, the EVF looks interesting. do you use it ?. with your eye up against the evf, can you chnage settings without removing your face from the camera? i imagine that with the LCD since you are a foot or more away from the camera,, if the camera pikcs a shutter speed you dont like, its probably easier to play with the menu/buttons at that distance.

do you use CF ?. i read alot of problems with CF cards. there are those using certain makes with no problems, but i doubt they are available here in canada.
thanks BIG
