Is anyone else experiencing very large amounts of annoying pop ups when at this site? Its driving me nuts! When I use netscape for this site, I can read the forums, just not sign in to reply. But, theres no pop ups. I finally figured out to try Internet Explorer for this site, and like magic, I can take part in discussions, that is when a pop up doesn't interfere. I'd much prefer netscape and use it for everything except for this site. Any advice? Anyone?

Try this free program and pop-ups won't bother you anymore. I read about it in one of the PC magazines. It works for me.

In Netscape 7 or above. Edit> Preferences> Privacy & Secutiry> Popup Window Controls supress popups.

I use a shareware program that is well worth the registration fee.
Admuncher

It allows you to configure its behaviour so that sites (like this one) can be allowed to pass right through with no filtering.

Use Mozilla, available from Mozilla.org. It is the basis for the newest Netscape, but without all of the Netscape/AOL ahem, improvements added in.

Got to love the tabbed browsing!

Good luck.

I use I.E. and don't get any pop-ups from this site. Although I haven't seen it mentioned for a while, Phil has long had a "no pop-up" ad policy. Some nasty software may have tricked you into installing it on your machine and is giving you pop-ups with I.E. no matter what site you visit.

thanks elrond, I installed the newest version of netscape and it works with this forum and and thankfully no more damn popups!

Same here. No pop-ups at all for as long as I've been here which is about 2 years now. Check your computer.

Agree. This site gives no pop up on my I.E. I think he must have
been trick into installing one of those freebie programs which is
making life miserable for him. Stay away from stuff like Gator,
etc.

It doesn't matter what site you are on, it is your browser (or something installed on your browser) causing the popups. You can set your security settings to try to eliminate them but I have found that can cause problems getting on some sites. I would recomend using a popup killer. There are lots of them. Or you could use a browser that doesn't allow it. Based on the previous post it sounds like the newer/newest version of netscape has this capability. If you like netscape just download the new version. Mozilla and opera are good options too. If you want to make good old bill gates a little richer, I would recomend a popup killer to use with microcrap internet explorer. They work prety well.

Check out a program called Adaware. It'll scan through your hd and registry and tell you where all the spyware and ad stuff is. Then you can get rid of what you want. Popup killers are great, but they don't stop the source of the problem.

Another good spyware/adware killer is Spybot. I have both AdAware and Spybot and lean toward Spybot. Either should fix your problem.

After 5 posts 'guessing' at the problem someone hits it on the head. You have some 'scumware' or 'adware' or other on your PC that is serving you ads you lucky guy.

Search google for lavasoft ad-aware. Free software will scan your PC for 'nasty' software and let you delete it - its free too :)

As for the other things folks ahve mentioned they are simply treating the symptoms not the cause :)

Thanks to all for suggestions. I think I have remedied this by downloading the netscape 7. I am able to use this forum now with the new netscape version. I'm not sure why I wasn't able to before with netscape 6. Thats why I had to use Internet Explorer, which I don't ever use, and only had pop ups with Internet Explorer. The new netscape also has a pop up blocker. I will look at the adware program which was suggested,as I have found a spyware program in my system in the past. Ooo, that really freaks me out!
