I saw that someone on this site orderd a canon 1d from Dell for $3200. I hope everything is ok with his order. I called Dell and spoke with a guy named Anthony, he assured me battery and charger were included in the kit. Great, I orderd one, with sales tax $3398. I went on line to check my order. Anthony had the wrong street name, zip, and town. 2 calls and 3 e mail's later (this took all morning) the order was fixed, so I thought. Later in the afternoon I started thinking about Anthony's keen English skills and had a bad, bad feeling. I called and spoke with 3 other reps only to find out that Dell only has the eos 1d body, not the kit or accessories. so I then called B&H and placed an order for a 1d from someone I could understand. I spent all day trying to save $$$ sometimes It's not worth the trouble or head ache's. Thanks Rick

a funny feeling about the conversation so I was going to try again to day; but after you posting I think I'll pass also. That $3200 sure was looking good though.

I can't speak to what you get or don't get when you order the 1d from Dell. I ordered a PC from them, with great service, and place on there web site where I could check the status of the build, testing, and shipping of the unit. No charge for delivery and no sales tax. But I would probably not go to a PC supplier for a high-end digital camera no more than I would go to B&H to order a PC, even if they sold them.

... and in the good old days, 'body only' meant no lens! If Dell is a Canon dealer, you WILL get the 'kit'. No lens, but camera, cables, software, charger, ac adapter.

29 lbs. of Canon stuff in a backpack that I carry everywhere. A closet full of things that are banned in Britain. A minivan and a Fender Stratocaster. A three bedroom ranch with three owls on an acre. An aversion to rumours. Also, absolutely no Canon 1200mm f/5.6. Yet.

Dell might be great at building and shipping PC's but they have a serious problem when it comes to accessories... namely PACKAGING.

The last THREE accessories I received from Dell were shipped just rattling around in a big box. One of these was a 120GB hard disk. A 5-year old could package items better than they do. Standard procedure seems to be to pick a big box, throw in your item, throw in a small air packet (or not), seal and ship.

I don't think I'd want my 1D box bouncing around inside another box from Austin (or wherever they ship it from).

I ordered a 1D from Dell last Thursday morning for $3200. It arrived Friday morning complete. The only problem I had was dealing with the sales guy from Dell who works in Bangalore City, India. You know that wonderful telemarketing highrise where they train the locals to speak English? For $3200 it was worth the "one minute while I talk to my manager" bs.

Dell is going downhill. I have trouble finding information on their website, with basic communications with their technical support and problems just tracking my order.

The other day I had to press a button online to make my Dell orders show up when I log in otherwise there was no association between my Dell account and the items I purchased on that Dell account. Didn't make any sense to me.

I'm totally amazed at what's going on at Dell. I wrote them a complaint letter yesterday after experiencing a big run around trying to order a 1D.

I'm honestly appalled at the way I was treated, and wouldn't expect this from a company as large as Dell.

My feeling is they have these 2 divisions: Dell Small Business and Dell Home. Dell Home is handled here in the US, the Small Business is routed to India for some reason (all logic fails here). I don't think the two are on the same system, though they may be able to access files from each area. Actually, I think the Small Business department is subcontracted to some other business in India.

The Small Business people seem to be playing "let's make a deal". So it really depends on your negotiating skills what you end up paying. I've heard Indians are really good at bargaining (maybe that's why???).

Apparently the products are here in the US and they ship from Texas or something.

The guy I talked to told me they had an endless supply of 1D's to sell... I'm wondering if Dell has some agreement with Canon to unload these cameras.

I would have gone through with the transaction if I hadn't been charged sales tax. I have bought things from Dell before, and NEVER paid tax. I don't see why I have to pay this time. Doesn't make sense to me. I'm guessing the "tax" goes somewhere else.... Dell doesn't have a physical presence here in Wisconsin (where I live).. Also, the guy mumbled something about getting it refunded later (yeah, sure....).

Anyway, it's pretty bizarre. If I had Dell stock, I'd sell it.

No sales tax in Delaware! If you have a tax exemption certificate, there should be no sales tax. For those complaining about sales tax, look at your B&H bills.

Dell is offering 10% off of computer peripherals, which a digital camera is. I just asked for 20%, plus overnight shipping. Bill came to $3223 and I had it in 24 hours. I tracked it al night on Airborne Express.

Many businesses use these telemarketing centers in India for the obvious reason- it costs less. If you can deal with the "wait just one minute while I talk to my manager" hassle, then its worth the $450 you save from not buying it at our friends in NY.

Hope this helps!

I ordered my 1D from Dell last Thursday morning. Recieved it Friday morning. No rattling whatsoever. Nor has that ever happened with me. Maybe I'm lucky.

I have been using Dell here at work for 3 years, I would reccomend them over any other vendor. None of the PC vendors are perfect. I have found Dell to bend over backwards to help me and the company I work for.

I can't wait to get out and shoot more with my 1D. :)

that had a $200 rebate and they kept sending my rebate form back saying that my customer number did not match. Seven months later, and I can't count how many phone calls and e-mails, they just gave me a credit to my charge card because they couldn't figure out why I had not received my rebate.

I'd like to order the 1D from Dell, but with the past experience I've had I think I may pass.

What a machine. Just got my 1D from Dell. Incredible camera.

Couldn't care less about Dell, but here's my experience:

Called twice yesterday; first guy was clueless, second guy was cool.

Asked for 20% discount. "Sure, and I'll even give you next day air for free! You've have it Wednesday latest!"

"Cool!", says I, "hey, what's tourism like there, good stuff?" And we chatted about tourism for a bit and I learned how to pronounce his real name, not his Dell-assigned stage name.

That was it. Airborne Express delivered a perfectly packaged, factory perfect, US warranty, complete 1D kit this afternoon.

It's not too late for you nay-sayers to get the same deal, unless you can't get over talking to a guy in a different country to place an order. :-)

I will be getting mine in a couple of days. Ordered through Desi Estrada, Austin, TX. His number is 1-800-456-3355 X40321 or dierect: (512) 724-0321.

It is $3199.00 plus tax unless you are from a "No Sales Tax State", e. g. Oregon.

I bought a Dell Inspiron laptop last year. They messed the order up so badly it was unbelievable.

Trying to get it straightened out was an absolute nightmare(they forgot to install the CD-burner & then sent me the wrong one three times). It would take me an hour to type out all the problems I had straightening out this mess.

If I didn't love the computer, I would have returned it & bought somewhere else. Suffice it to say, I will never in a million years deal with Dell again. Dell used to have a well deserved reputation for excellent customer service, sadly those days are long gone!!
