Well, after lurking around here for a while trying to decide between the D100 and the S2, I made the leap today and ordered the S2 from State Street Direct. I'll have it Wednesday!

So, soon I'll be more than just a lurker...I'll be one of the "gang" :)

James

Welcome to the "gang" Mr. Soon to be an ex-lurker! :-) Great choice you made. You'll love the S2. Be sure to share your first shots and thoughts with us once you get your new toy!

At first I shot JPEG because I was naive and wanted quantity over quality.
Then I shot RAW, because I was still naive but wanted quality over
quantity. Now I've gone back to JPEG because I'm no longer naive, and I
want both quantity and quality.

James,

Hey, c'mon in, put yer feet up and kick back on the couch....we'll get you a beverage. What would you like? A soda pop? A nice cold beer? Maybe some coffee?

That's what it's like here in Fuji SLR land....a great bunch of welcoming people who are more concerned about getting the most out of the cameras they have NOW than about the new camera Canon has coming out or the new camera Nikon DOESN'T have coming out now. It's a lot of us sharing ideas, suggestions, tips, thoughts, frustrations, and decisons. Ask a question and 4-5 people will come to your aid. This is a great Forum, with lots of cool people. And, it's world-wide.

Great bunch of people here. I'm sure you'll feel right at home!

Hi James,

Welcom to the gang. I used an S1 and then upgraded to the S2. I am sure you will be happy with the camera as I do.

Wow! Thanks to everyone who has replied. This forum has a lot to do with why I went with the S2. Everyone seems to be actually enjoying photography and not obsessing over gear. Over on the D100 forum everyone is complaining about what their camera does or does not have, what someone else's does or what Nikon hasn't come out with.

There seems to be a real difference in the attitudes of the S2 users vs. the D100 users. Over here it's like Disneyland...everyone knows everyone (It's a Small World Afterall...:) and over on the D100 forum....well, let's just say people seem to be stuck in Tomorrowland.

Thanks all and I'll be sure to share some photos once I get my baby!

Glad this group was able to help. I was an owner of both the D100 and S2 and kept the S2 because I was so much happier with what it producing. I'm sure you're going to love it. Hope to see some pics from you this weekend. :-)

Right move bro..if just for the fine people in this forum any camera can take good pics but with S2 you get the kindest bunch of folks on the internet.

Welcome James.
I like the Tomorrowland comment :-))

In my experience, the friendliness is more than just the S2 (and S1) group. My previous camera was a Fuji 6900Z pro-sumer and I found exactly the same friendliness and interest in taking photos in the Fuji Talk forum. I put it down to the fact that everyone is confident that Fuji's technology in image capture (with the Super CCD) is just better and more advanced than the opposition. So they're not looking over their shoulder at that opposition - they're concentrating on using their new, very capable tool, and getting the best out of it.

I, for one, am continually being amazed by the very accurate skin colours I am getting in my portrait shots with so little work to achieve it.
