Hey all. I have kind of sit back and listened for a while and I was waiting until I got my own d-SLR before I starting putting my own two cents in. Well last week I got my D100 and boy I am loving it so far.

My background is in digital video production and I have always had an interest in photography. So I decided to purchase a nice SLR and done up on my skills. Once I do that I will add that to my list of services I provide with my digital video production company. So any helpful hints would be great.

Here are two pictures I have taken. This first one was within a couple of hours of recieving my camera. Me and a buddy of mine were acting goofy.

This second one was taken today. I was trying my hand at lighting for photo and using a simple background.

Please give me some feedback let know me whats wrong or right or whatever. I am a sponge for info. I love learning as much as I can.

I think this forum is a great a tool for all of us to use and share knowledge. If people could just stop bashing each other or each others equipment prefrences it would be great.

di,

I assume Brandon is your son because he looks like the fellow goofing-off in the first pic. Welcome to the forum and I like what your closing comment said. It's very good advice and hopefully it will be taken seriously. I can't comment much on your son's portrait other than it looks great to me. I'm not a specialist in portraiture so I'll leave the constructive suggestions to someone who is qualified and knows exactly what they are talking about. A good teacher is the one that can back up their words with examples of their own that prove they know what they are talking about. I cannot do that in portraiture. Soon, when you learn how to handle your camera with ease, you will be offering helpful hints to others here in this fine forum. I'm looking forward to just that.

If you cannot say something good or constructive, try to resist saying anything at all.

Have fun. I am a photographer who finds himself earning a living in live tv sports production. I bought a D100 a month ago or so and love it. In film photography I create landscapes using 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 format. The D100 is not for that use but I shoot a lot more now that I have before. It proves itself more useful than I ever expected. Great shots of family, outings, wildlife, etc. and people keep asking for web site photographs which are easy to create and consistantly please. I use .jpg for the quick and easy work and RAW for more critical work.
