My aunt has several older family pictures that I wanted to scan and touch up for her. The problem is these pictures (8x10) are glued/cemented to wooden plaques, some with three or four on a single plaque. I don't think she will allow me to try to peel the photos off the plaques without being sure of not damaging the originals or atleast how the restored ones will come out. Any suggestions of how to get image files to work with? Thanks.

Have you tried scanning them as they are, on the wooden background? It may not work, but you may be pleasantly surprised; particularly if there is no glass or other material covering the photos.

Scan them as they are on the plaques and then just create seperate images after so you can edit each one seperately.
