[pic] ...and then she turned

David,

Just so happens that the current issue of Popular Photography on
the newstand has a fairly lengthy article written by a lawyer about
model releases, etc. Obviously, it can't cover all scenarios but
it is interesting reading. Check it out.

Ken
Thanks for the info, Ken. I'll check it out...I live pretty close to the bookstore...hopefully they carry Popular Photography.

Then I shot RAW, because I was still naive but wanted quality over
quantity. Now I've gone back to JPEG because I'm no longer naive, and I

One post said "magic," I would say this is the best one-word
description of this photograph. With the diversity of comments I
think this photo achieves this magic with each viewer in a little
different way. Quite nice.

If I were to define what is a good photograph to me, it is one that
draws me in with curisity to continue to look and study, to stare
and search, and capture what's going on (the story.) You were
successful with me here.

Obviously you were stalking her (; ) and you caught the perfect
moment (the face) between where her curiousity/fear of this strange
man/sound behind her is answered/discoverd only to find it is a
single harmless radiologist passionate photographer with an S2 Pro.

That expression cannot be posed by any model easily.
The composure works for me as stalkee is framed nicely with the
gradiated arches.

Good job...again.

Thanks, Colin. LOL! :-) Maybe I was stalking her...subconsciously, anyway. Let's not open up that can of worms :-) Maybe I should schedule an appointment with David :-) I'm glad this image drew you into it, Colin. It really does the same for me. I find the arches so pleasing to my eyes...sometimes the Big Guy just throws you a bone :-)

Interesting pix, indeed!
Out of curiosity, after she turned, did she see you taking her pix?
And if she did, what happened after that?

Did you walk up to her and say thanks for the pose? Did she run
away? Did she call the cops? C'on man, give us the story behind the
pix.

:p

Cheers

LOL! :-) You're a curious bugger, aren't you? :-) Actually she just turned back around and walked off...hopefully not in anger :-)

SO when is your first show coming out and when is it starting it's
international tour... man your shots are like the best photos i
have ever seen taken in a long while... they are good enough to go
on show in musuem or something like that... i think that pic would
look great printed out say about 10x8 or close to A3 size paper(i
have forgotten what the specs are on it) and printed on some matte
paper... i heard you got teh epson 2200... i think with the two
different black colour inks you can choise from it would look super
printed from there.... i wish i ahd that printed here but it cost
over $2000AUD and that is just a tad too much for me... tho we got
the 2100sp here... which does prints directly onto cd... when i
went to the epson roadshow i asked what teh difference bewteen teh
2100 and 2200 printers were and theold tolds me 2200 is US and has
no cd printing. nods ... i just got one question... do they really
sell umbrella's that big in Seattle... cos that baby looks huge...
bigger than anything that they sell here... anyway that is enough
out of me... i gotta get to work on some pics and yeah so ciao

Andrew J Sarpi
Thanks, bud! :-) Ya the do sell unbrellas that big here...it rains a heck of a lot :-) But this lady was also kinda petite so the unbrella looks extra big on her. The 2200 is an awesome printer and when used with matt paper and the special matt ink, the results are mind-blowing. With my old 1280, I use to have some difficulty maintining some of the shadow-detail because the printouts use to come out too contrasty, but with the 2200 (probably because of the new charcol ink cartridge) I never lose any shadow detail. For example, I would not have been able to see the "BOSS" sign on the unbrella in the printout by 1280 but thoss subtel letter are well displayed on the 2200 printout. I'm very, very happy with this print out. CD printing? I don't even know what that is! :-)

saying :P
Thanks, dude! I want to come to Hawaii so bad! The weather out here is for the dogs today! Oh well...in 5 days I leave for Las Vegas! :-)

OK, Mahesh...this is my absolute favorite shot you've taken...EVER!
my analysis can't be as clever as Derrel's but let me just say that
the quality of this shot is what I hope to attain one day. And it
was just a snapshot! My God!...my snapshots come out all blurry
and the head is 1/2 cut off or there is a finger infront of the
lens or a twig gets in the way...on and on and on... I'd love to
see this one printed out in a large size as Andrew pointed out.
I'm gonna use this picture as my new desktop picture (the old one
was your Seattle sunset skyline pict, btw). Ok...I"m going to
sleep now...good night...come visit me in my dreams :)
:-) Thanks, Jenny! You really liked this image that much? I'm flattered that you'd use this as a desktop image (I still have George's bird on mine :-)). To tell you the truth, this is my new favorite too :-)

P.S. Sleep well? :-)

Just got back from the park. It's a cloudy day here. I took my
80-400 VR with me to see if I could catch a few ships or planes by
the water, but nothing too interesting. However, there was this
one lady with an umbrella who was walking around. She was walking
under this archway and I was gonna just take a picture of her
walking but suddenly she turned. I was plesently surprised when I
got home and saw the nice symmetry in the picture. I think this
shot works so much better in b&w: she was dressed in black, had a
black umbrella, the arches overhead were grayish. Anyway, thought
I'd share it with you guys. As always, comments are welcome.

S2 & 80-400VR at 80mm f4.8 1.90sec. ISO 100. 12MP orig/orig/hard.
Shot in color and used channel mixer to convert to b&w.

Hi Mahesh,
Nice shot. It works really fine in B&W and it´s very well composed.

Regards,
Thanks, pal! I can't beleive the difference in the b&w version of this shot and the color. It's like night and day.

Whoa, hold on there, what the hell was that?, lets try that one
more time.
(Very well done. I prefer the smoothness in this image to the grain
in the boat and man thread.) thats better, Great natural framing
and geometry.
My typing skills blow.

davidbogdan
LOL! :-) Don't worry, bud. My spelling skills are that of a two year old. Frequently I look at my posts after I've pressed the "post" button and think...What an idiot! The difference is you are concerned enough to retype :-) Thanks for the comments bud...I like all three of the b&w but have to agree that this one is just a little more special...nothing to do with the grain for me, though.

Mahesh,

Really nice b&w shot, bud. The expression on the woman's face is what I really liked. It contained a little 'mad' or purplex look to it as though to say, "Why is this guy taking my picture?"

CD printing... on the 2100 you can get writeable CD's that you are coated on teh top so you can print directly onto them.... i think that feature is on your Epson 950 over there... we only go up to the Epson 925(which i got) and for me that is more than enough

Hi Mahesh,

This is just an amazing shot. Perfect choice of B/W and the composition is marvelous. I don't know but it would be interesting to see a version with the whole body visible, might create a bigger impact with the background.

Thanks for sharing !

Cheers

Absolutely love it. This is excellent work and a very special shot. Your use of B&W has improved considerably I think!! The tones and contrast you have chosen here compliment the shot perfectly.
A keeper.

Hey Mahesh,

I'm just about to walk out the door for work but wanted to ask you a question. I showed this picture to a friend of mine yesterday and she just called me to ask if you'd sell a print to her. I e-mailed you but you haven't responded yet...check you u.washington.edu e-mail. Let me know how much you want for it, if you're willing to sell a print. Thanks!

,the Time Tunnel Traveller has an umbrella...

Derels comment covers it all:

composition, frames'n'frames, circles, perspective, DOF, greyscale, texture, smell....

This is a winner, maybe the best of your shots I've seen (probably missed some in the past)

Just curious, what does it look like when colored ?

Best regards,
