So I guess you can se one of these monsters on a monopod? Do you
any of you guys shoot nature or birds with that lens and a monopod?
What is it like?
Sports shooters very often use monopods with big glass, though
you're probably more likely to see a 400 f/2.8 with a teleconverter
than a 500 f/4. My guess is that nature shooters are more apt to
use a tripod, but a monopod sure is a lot better than hand-holding.

This is outside turn 1 at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix CART race
of a few weeks ago.

So which camera strap do you guys reccomend?
And can you provide a link to it so I can purchase?

thank you much in advance!!

There is actually only one manufacturer of camera straps. OpTech.

Oh yes, there are other companies that make things that LOOK like camera straps, but only OpTech actually makes the real thing. :)

I have been using them for everything from Hassey's down to my Nikons. You cannot go wrong with OpTech.

Yeah, I had trouble spotting the lens also...

Reminds me of a funny moment several years ago, somewhat related. Ducked into a public men's restroom to use the facilities. Had my N8008 with 300mm lens slung over my shoulder. Standing at the urinal, some guy next to me glances over and says, "man, that's a big one you got there." Immediately he says, "the lens, the lens, I was talking about the lens!!" and then laughed. My wife thought it was funny anyway... :-)

Yea they do. Makes me mad. I'm here on the East Coast with nothing cool or special :( We just have the regular car shows... Do you shoot at car shows? Where you located?
The reason why he is using that 500mm lens at this paticular Import
Show is because they had a drifting competition going on. Here are
some shots from CarandModel.com.

i'm in the san francisco bay area. we have a handful of import shows here, but nothing like what they have down in southern cal.

i go to the shows whenever i can. i have some car show galleries on pbase if you're interested. my old coolpix 990 was much better for car shows (wider field of view, higher depth of field) than my d1 or d100.

That's what I call REAL nature photography :)
Man, I can't believe you guys actually saw camera gear in that
photo. Where's your priorities?

I'm curious about the shot this guy with the gear is lining up? Is he waiting for one of them to bend over?

Hey, for you guys who photograph car shows, do you guys just come as normal guest or are you working for the magazines, websites or for the promoters? I'm interested in shooting some events, but I'm not interested in paying freakin' $20-$25 just to get in. I'm located in socal. So any replies would be appreciated. Thanks!

I get in usually with media passes. I have a website that does event coverages. Usually if you work for a media coverage or something you can email or sometimes they will even email you about media passes.

anthony, do you need a west coast rep for your website? :)

jonathan, i've always paid to get into the car shows. gets expensive, but i don't have any other way to get in. if you love cars then you'll be going to the shows anyway. one time i entered my car in the show, so i was able to get in before the crowds showed up, but that cost me $50.
