HI, I am experimenting using my G2 and a light table to digitise some old negatives. So far I have had great success with black and white negatives, but I am struggling with colour negs. Does anyone have any information on how to determine the correct inversion transform for a colour negative? ie to make a positive. I am working with PS7
Thanks

Graham

Keith, this looks really helpful. I will certainly have a go using the technique described.

However, if anyone can point me to a free PS7 plug, that would be great as well!

Cheers

No plugin - I suspect there isn't one. but more info

you might be able to build an action

depending on what quality you are after , you might do better to get the negs digitised and put onto Cd by a photo shop - there is often 2 qualities available - if you want bets qualitu go for the large fi;e size / TIFF if possible

I have had poor results scanning negatives on a flatbed, the best results come form proper scanners that can expand the compressed dynamic range of the negative - where dark to light is compressed into
orange to dark orange.

Good luck

Keith, thanks for the extra info. I have tried following the procedure outlined in your first reference and it produces reasonable results. I'll keep trying and I'll follow up the other reference you have kindly provide.

Currently I am using a light table and my camera to digitise the negatives. While this process isn't perfect, I am really pleased with the capture process. What has staggered me is the quality of some of the photo's my Father took 50 years ago! Most of the negs are B&W 2*2 or larger and I am able to frame the image to get the negs to almost fill the captured image and can thus achieve reaqsonable resolution. I am sure If I had a proper scanner I would do better, but what I have does quite well at the momemt. In many cases I have never seen prints from some of these negatives, so the whole experience is one of discovery.

Cheers

Although I haven't yet scanned any of my negatives, I had kept this link to study. You might want to give it a try...

Pam, I have now tried the technique suggested. It works quite well indeed - certainly the best so far.

Thanks for the advice
