Will there be any problems with the Oly 3030z if we upgrade from windows 98 to windows ME. Missing drivers and the things like that.
Or should we just leave well enough alone?
Any experience will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Somebodies got to do it first. Go for it!!!!!??? I'm considering installing on my older Compaq for the family to experiment, but prefer to install on my Notebook, but my notebook cd drive has died and installation and need to get the drivers sorted out for my external parallel cd drive.

I just spent the whole morning upgrading to ME and just deleted it as it kept on hanging up the only game I play NFS 5 Porsche Edition. Everything else seemed OK but there no real Gain in going to ME as I did performance benchamarks on 98 and ME with no real difference. Also it didnt seem to be an stableer either I got a few Blue Screens of death.

From what I have read, leave well enough alone! Not much to gain. Some drivers may not work. Nikon has a warning on their site. I think the only reason to get it would be if you buy a new computer and start from scratch.

Your decision should not depend on what camera you have. Based on my personal experience, I think you should wait at least nine months after Microsoft comes out with a new service release (Microsoft prefers to give service releases a name, like "ME").

After all is said and done, after five long years, I'm happy with Windows 95, SR-xxx (AKA W98, 2nd Edition). This is pretty good software. Both Microsoft and companies that write application software seem to have their act together.

At this point, I don't want to change anything - especially, the operating system.

If you are happy with your present setup - if everything works pretty good - I don't recommend a change to the latest and greatest "bug repairs" from Microsoft.

If it's not broken, don't fix it.

You should require a very good reason to consider upgrading
from Win98 to Windows ME. What's your reason? I haven't
heard a good one yet.

Here's a story in today's news that concludes "that Microsoft
has reached the point of diminishing returns with its Windows 9.x
operating systems ... you're not going to get much more than a
PC that boots up more quickly. And that's a good thing -- because
you'll be rebooting a lot."

WinME has native TWAIN drivers for many imaging devices (and I prefer the one
for my Microtek X6EL scanner over the one that came with the scanner). You may
be able to discard Camedia if it also supports the 3030.

Works great on my two kids computers at home. There's no fundemental changes to the driver model so the risks are low. I think that lasts posts are being a little paranoid.

One of the new features of WinME (that is already in Win2000 which is what I use) allows you to view thumbnails in explorer. Pretty handy, but not required. There is also a little video editor in it and an improved help center.

That said, I dink with PC's a bunch, so I'm not intimidated by backing my pictures to another machine, reformatting and starting again.

I upgraded to Windows ME from Windows 95. So far, I have not had any real problems. I have had no problems at all with uploads from my C-2020. The main reason I upgraded was to allow me to install A USB card. This then allowed me to use a USB card reader that I had, but could not use up 'til now.The version of Windows 95 that I had, was not compatible with USB. ME also allows me to see images without using another program. I am quite happy with ME. I really have not had a chance to explore it to well yet though. Another great feature that I have used is the system restore. I screwed up my system trying to update the driver for my mouse [I think I loaded the wrong driver]. With system restore, I was able to set my system back to the way it was, before I screwed it up.
