Are people that desparate to part with their D60's?

the offer will not last long!
Thang.
It's amazing how many D60's are on ebay for $1500 or less. Are
people that desparate to get rid of them and sit without a camera
for a month or more?

Fact: Ebay buyers are generally not as well informed as most of
us. Ebay tends to overpay. The only thing that will drive the
Ebay market on D60's down in the next few weeks until knowledge of
the D10 becomes widely available, is by people posting lowball "Buy
Now" prices.
Fact: Even thought the D10 was announced...it isn't like you can go
into a store and buy one.

Heck....my local shop is not as informed as this forum. I called
late yesterday to inquire about the new camera...the response was
"Oh, the D90? Did they release it yet?"

If you really want to get rid of it now.....why lowball?

Yes...I have mine on with a buy now price of $1750. I also have
another camera in the house to use. (now if I could just figure out
how to get my canon glass on my wifes' Fuji 3800 ;^)

If I don't get $1750 for it now....I'll wait. My logic is if I can
sell it now for more than I'm paying for the new camera....that
money goes towards more glass or storage, or a better tripod...etc.

If I don't get a decent price for it AFTER the new camera is in my
hands...I'll keep the damn thing. I think people are jumping the
gun a bit....

Since you're into disclaimers, here is one. I do not practice law on this forum and nothing I write is to be construed as advocating one position or another, nor does it constitute legal advice in any way to anyone. I merely took exception to your incorrect characterization of the specific example of the original poster's comments. Your current examples are a far cry from what is being discussed in this thread and I would prefer not to take a position one way or another. No offense intended, I just would rather talk about cameras.

John
(1) Insider trading is a classic example.

(2) Lets extend your house example, say if you are on the town
zoning board, and you know that a strip club or a land fill is soon
going to move next door to your house, would it be okay to sell
your house now without disclosure?

(3) Would it be okay if you are not on the zoning board, but you
heard from your friend on the zoning board that's what's gonna
happen. Of course, if you and your friend keep quiet about it, no
one is the wiser, and the ticked-off buyer will have to find proof
that you knew it in advance, such as seeing your posts gloating
somewhere on the internet.

(4) If your land soaks up so much water from the hill-side run-off
that every spring the toilet in the basement is inoperable, but in
summer and winter both the toilet works and the land passes perc
test (okay, not winter). Would it be okay not to disclose when
selling in summer?

I do not have a definite answer to all of them; would appreciate
your professional opinion.
As for price fixing, you are forgetting one crucial element - there
can be no price fixing liability if the seller in question has no
ablilty to control the market. Somebody making a suggestion on
this forum with one camera to sell has no such ability. Perhaps
discretion is of some value here, but I see nothing wrong with the
original post.

These are examples where you would have access to information that almost nobody else would. Say having a job in Financial Reporting in a large corporation, where security wouldn't let me in the door, let alone allow me to dig through your files. On the other hand, almost anybody in the world is able/allowed to check the Internet for new product announcements.

I think people do appreciate the fact that you don't want them to wind up in Small Claims Court -- but people also make their own decisions...

In fact, I specificly disclaimed to the contrary.

Since when did I have a Sony 707? Another reading comprehension
failure?

What else are you pulling out of your . . hat?

Thank you for clarifying the Ebay process for me. As for the
informaiton "seller CAN'T fix the price in an auction" that you
have so graciously provided, I wonder what Sotherby's was busted
for.
That's 100% correct. The buyer determines the price on ebay. If the opening bid is too high or the reserve price is too high, it won't sell - unless there is someone willing to pay that much. As long as we're discussing legitimate auctions (i.e. ones that represent the merchandise for exactly what it is, not taking the money & running, no shill bidding, etc), the buyer is in control of the final price. What was Sotheby's busted for? Can you compare a high-end auction house to an internet auction site that merely acts as an interface between buyer & seller? I'm thinking no.
BTW, why do I care? Because I'm quite sick of the merchandising
machination and gloating that takes up bandwidth here; why don't we
just change the topic "Canon SLR Talk" to "How to be a Canon
equipment collector without paying a penny by using Ebay."
Buyer beware. I've used ebay as both buyer & seller, haven't had any problems. Know what you're buying and how much you're willing to pay. As a seller, just be honest about what you're selling. But it's certainly not the seller's responsibility to inform buyers that there's a new version coming out. If you're spending that much money on a digital camera, you better know before you place the first bid if it's what you want and whether it's worth waiting for the next model, because for the near future, there's always going to be a next model.

It's a free upgrade with a much better AF system (presumably). That's if you already have a backup or can live w/o a digi cam for 2 months.

Thang.
My D60 takes fantastic pitures. Actually it's takes the same great
pictures today as it did 1 week ago.

There is no reason to sell the D60. It is still a terrific camera.
Now that they imporved it and addressed it's weaknesses, Canon has
made the new 10D the most desirable of all the cameras in it's
class.

Look at what the guys in the Nikon room are saying. They can't find
anything legit to complain about.

Peter Gregg

then, you won't be able to get $1500 for your D60 either.

Thang.
I was told when I ordered yesterday that the price is $1499 AS OF
NOW....she suggested that it could go up, possibly.

If I had a guarantee that I would have the new camera in my hands
in a few days and a price of $1500 100% sure.....then yes, I'd
probably dump it for $1500 also.
Kinda like taking advantage of a limited time, even swap upgrade
while they can! Be honest - wouldn't most people do a even trade -

Yes, but I am fully confident that Canon will have the 10D shipped by end of March. The only question is will there be enough to meet the initial demand. I dearly hope so. Because I don't want people to be disappointed if the actual price is going to be > $1500
