i have been told by my trusted retailer that 2200's can get good black and white prints with color inks. i, of course, am concerned about color cast.

has anyone had any luck with this? if so, what profile, inks, paper, software, etc.

this info. was in response to my mentioning that i may have to buy 2 printers since i print an equal amount of BW and color and didn't want to be wasting alot of time and ink switching back and forth.

thanks for any input.

do you mean to tell me that no one on this forum has any experience with this to share? somebody must be, or has tried, making BW prints with the color ink set.

Sorry Wilder...didn't see your post.

I use the 2200 for black and white; in fact nearly all my 2200 prints are black and white. They're gorgeous! I use custom profiles by Cathy Stratton
http://www.cathysprofiles.com

Try her free samples, then buy more if you like them (you will). They're the best profiles, and the best B-W results I've seen. You don't have to buy profiles to get decent black and whites. Try this technique:

This gives nice black and whites...good neutrality, but slightly darker than the screen image. The Cathy's profiles match the screen better, but you can get used to the slight darkening and correct for it. That's how I used my 2200 until I got my profiles.

I made my first B&W prints with my 2200 last week and my first 13x19 two days ago.

I am not a professional as some of these people are. I am using a Nikon 5700 and I used neat image to remove some of the noise from the cloudy sky. I then used photoshop to convert the image to B&W. I used the Adobe 1998 profile and sent it to the printer with the same as source. In the epson printdriver I used the advanced and then selected B&W from the choices. The prints came out fantastic. I used both luster and enhanced matte and they both looked great. I have a very hard time telling any difference between my screen and the print. I used the colored inks and asked my wife if she saw any colorcast ... we both cannot.

James,

There's no black and white inkset for the 2200, only color (unless you mean just using the black ink only?) but I use the Epson Ultrachrome color inks for my black and whites.

Cathy's site's down for a couple days while she switches hosting companies.
http://www.crawfordandkline.com/cathy.htm has her stuff too
