Ok, who got their order in??

Hi Breycap,
me? i can't justify losing ~$1000 (in less than a year) selling my
D60, just so i can buy the 10D. doesn't make any sense.
The value of your D60 dropped the minute the new camera was announced (well, perhaps when it's available). Whether you sell it our not is besides the point.

Now, since the difference between D30 and D60 was larger than between D60 and 10D, we can probably assume a used D30 drops to something like $800 and perhaps $1200 for the D60. The question is: Do you think it's worth $300 to upgrade?

Cheers,

Erik

It was the red pill ... no, the blue pill ... Either way, it's too late for me now. So there's no DA (digi-holics anonymous)? Now the fun is really going to begin. And I'm going to have to learn Photoshop as well ... there go my waking hours!

Thanks for the welcome.
David
I ordered mine today - B&H. It will be my first digital. Very
excited here and hope I don't have to wait too long.
Are you going to take the blue pill or the red pill? Once you take
the red pill you can't go back (or was that the blue pill???).
There are no 12 step programs for digital camera addiction
recovery. Are you SURE you want to do this???

Anyhow, welcome to the community.

Once you get away from the major urban centers it's pretty easy to get on a dealers top 10 list (top 5) with out a credit card. But even with a CC I got on Adorama's top 10 after 5 EST. At 200+ Ritz isn't the best game in town.
It's been a few hours now. How many of you ordered your 10D? I did.
Ordered at Ritz. They said it would be around april before I would
see it.

Greg at Canoga took your order for a 10D? As of noon EST today he said (email) he'd contact me when he had more info. Left him alone figuring he was busy...

Hmm... Not feeling lotsa loyalty to Canoga right now...

Sent a note to Greg at Conooga and he got mine ordered for
me.....don't know how many ahead of me though.

Just ordered from onecall. Number 100+ in line. :( Sometimes I hate having to work and not being able to order until I get home. On the other hand, if I didn't work, I couldn't afford the 10D. Heh.

Just some addtional information. I talked to a Keith at onecall. He said that last year, after the initial, now infamous, backorders of D60's, onecall typically received shipments of 30-40 D60's from canon at a time. So basically if they can deliver them in quantity to dealers, #100 ain't so bad. If they once again underestimated demand, then I may be in for a long wait.

Interesting to calculate how the first day went for canon. Onecall 100+ orders. Ritz 250+ orders. Not sure about B&H, anyone know that number? I'm guessing about 400-500 $1500 orders from just three online retailers in the first 12 hours. And that doesn't include lens orders.

Let the waiting begin.

I called a local dealer and ordered mine earlier today. Found out I'm #1 on the list, but (like I said earlier) my biggest concern is when I will actually have it in my hands. Never did get the D60 I ordered last year, so (the more I think about it) being first on the list doesn't fill me with a whole lot of confidence.

I asked to start the list at Canoga Camera. I'll have to find a good home for my immaculate D60.

I leave for Hawaii on March 17th and it is going to kill me to get on that plane without it. Yeah, I love my D30, but what a great place to test out my new obsession.

I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

hi erik,

i think you're looking at it in another perspective. here's what i'm talking about:

bought D60 @ $2200
may sell for $1200

you've lost $1000

yes, you only need to add $300 to your $1200 (money from selling D60), but in the process of selling your D60, remember, you've lost $1000 !!! that money came out of your pocket just a few months ago. in reality, your 10D just cost you a whopping $2500 !!!

that's why i suggested that if you can handle keeping your D60, better keep it. :-)

If you sell D60 now for $1800 (that's about current price at ebay) and buy 10D for $1500, you get $300 and an upgraded camera which will depreciate less than D60.

Got it?

hi mishkin,

at the risk of sounding facetious: now that word is out about the 10D, how likely is it that you can still sell your D60 for $1800?

Hi,

You can definitely get it on Ebay now, but maybe not in a week.

Of course, don't count on getting a 10D until the end of April. If you can live without a camera for two months you should definitely unload the D60 now.

Cheers,

Erik
