Any reason why you didn't contact me and complain about the posting?
Hi,

I wrote an mail to you regarding this CA comparison (CP990, F505V) in the Nikon forum without a response (of course you are receiving hundreds of mails daily).
Regarding this recommandation with the "kidneys" it is not my style to
denounce people.

Best regards,

Andreas

Andreas,

With all due respect, I just think DMerill was trying to be funny in a way that could be misinterpreted. I've come to know you through the forums as a guy that is very professional about photography but also a guy that can throw a joke every now and then. I think that when participating in public forums like these, you need to filter for yourself who to read and trust and who to just plain ignore (no offenec DMerill).

I sincerely hope that you'll stay active in these forums, I enjoy reading your posts a lot.

Kind regards,
Hans

Andreas,

I'm reading this NG from some weeks, I always appreciated a lot your comments, I would like that you will continue to partecipate as before to the NG.

IMO the flame (if I understood it well) is not so offensive, i've seen much worst, so ... please ... stay with us and ignore (also if it could be dufficult) what happened.

Ancient Romans say "Aquila non captat muscas", wich means "The eagle doesn't capture flies" (because the eagle is too superior in respect of the flies) !

See you again here,

Simply ignore it Andreas, if it recurs please don't hesitate to email me (mark the email URGENT).

Just adding to Phil's and everyone else's comments. Please don't leave. Your contributions outweigh the negatives on this site. Your contributions are so very much appreciated by myself as well as others, I am sure. Again, please reconsider :-)

Hi there Andreas -

I was both surprised and saddened by your comments about leaving the Sony forums, and by extension the rest of the forums provided here.

I am not one to shine someone's boots simply to glorify another person. However, I believe that there are reasons which you are not thinking about at this moment of particular sensitivity, which reasons would certainly give you more motivation to stick around and contribute rather than keep your gifts to yourself. Please allow me to list just a few of those reasons, each of which has been contributed by a certain Andreas P. for the benefit of others here:

Hawks
Eagles
Vultures
Churches
Cherubs
Histograms
Slave tests
Gold screen tests
Skin tone tests
Tripod experiments
Accurate F505V information
Analytical data explained to laymen
Honest evaluations of capable digicams
More hawks :)

IMO, it would be a disservice to keep all of that to yourself rather than share it simply because of the idle comment of one or a few. You've gone through a particularly interesting process as you evaluate which of your cameras you want to keep and which to sell. You've observed yourself that not only is it about the equipment and its capability, it is foremost about the PEOPLE with whom that information and the images are shared. By and large, you've observed that the Sony forum is unusually tolerant. Well, why inconsistently leave the Sony forum if it has such a pattern of toleration and excellent individuals who know their information? You certainly have much to continue to offer.

I will not say that the forum can't go on without you. Forums come and go, and so do individuals who frequent them. It can certainly do without me, Pondria, Curt S., BunnyBun, George, SEK, and any number of others. It can probably go on without Phil (whoops!! I got carried away there, Phil. Heheh...). But the point is that it doesn't have to. And you don't have to pay attention to what was likely and mistakenly meant to be a remark of humor, the poster no doubt not knowing anything about you, your family, background, or life experience.

Ignore it, report it, move on. But whatever you do, please give the forum the benefit of your images and your comments inasmuch as you are able to do so.

And if nothing else, DO IT FOR ME! I'm still learning!! :)

Hey, I'll even post a picture of myself if you hang around, Andreas. What do you say?!? Deal?

Are you kidding Andreas? Just because of one idiot remark
written by a guy that's a total stranger to you? C'mon!!!
You don't stop living because of one offensive posting in one
little thread (!) You know all your postings are always welcomed
here. Just look at all the responses you get!

Now post some more of your eagle pix and don't
worry about it anymore. 8-)

Humor (such as it was) doesn't go over well unless you know the person VERY well. I have had to learn this the hard way in business. I think I understand what point he was trying to make, it just didn't get communicated appropriately.

I THINK his point may have been that we are all such addicts for digital cameras that we are some times willing to do things to get the next camera that would be 'insane' to the average person. I live in Alaska and there are people who will live in a very small trailers (600 square feet) with a wife and 2 kids to keep an airplane. They drive small beater cars and work like slaves just to keep gas in the airplane. Most people would say that they are insane or at least crazy to live that way.

His phrase 'sell a kidney' was in bad taste because he didn't know you well enough to know how you would react. I know that I have use phrases like that with a very few select friends who I know feel the same way about a subject and we all laugh because we know how crazy it is. As crazy as it is, there are reports of drug addicts who have sold a kidney to get money for their next bunch of drugs.

Let me apologize for some poorly worded humor. I hope that you stick around.
Kind regards,
Hans

Oh heck, Andreas, the guy was just funning.
He really didn't mean anything by it.
It might have been insensitive, but it was "casual humour".

All he meant was "sell something of value and buy the D30!" He even apended a [grin].

I think you are smarting from the ridiculous, near flaming and certainly insulting, thread on the Nikon forum about the church shot, and the pontificating by several posters. They obviously were typical Nikonites that would rather defend their camera than talk about

how to prevent or compensate for, perhaps, the CA in the Coolpix 990. You had everything from a pompous engineer (Dr) to "Frances" jump on you. They ALL missed the point that you own BOTH (990&505) cameras and would NEVER "trash" a CP990.
I think that "sensitized" you.

Then comes this little innocent remark that WAS insensitive, but was not meant to be.

Please stay.

Why should we, the Sony Forum, suffer from something really caused by the Nikon Forum??!!
That is almost TOO ironic!

Quit the Nikon Forum.

Stay here with us in the Sony Forum.
Please stay.

And please tell Ullysses that we don't WANT to see his picture ;> )
(It's more fun trying to imagine him!)

WHOAAAA!!!! I was KIDDING! (Hence the grin at the end). I absolutely, positively meant no offense by it. I would love to have a D30. I would probably have to sell a kidney to get one though. That's what I meant.

Thank you Dino. Yes, it was an attempt at humor. I thought the "sell a kidney" thing was a well known humorous phrase. Man, this has been blown WAAAAY out of proportion. I mean, I put the smiley in and everything (just in case there was some doubt).

Again, I apologize Andreas. I guess American humor and European humor are quite different.

Ever heard the saying "I'd give my left leg" for that car, girl whatever?? Just a joking statement.

I thought the kidney comment was just a "kidding" reference to how expensive they were. People were selling their own kidneys on eBay last year for millions of dollars, believe it or not. Some weird folk out there.

Joe.

Again, I apologize Andreas. I guess American humor and European humor
are quite different.
As a Brit living in the USA my somewhat cutting cruel humor often gets me in trouble. Personally I regularly use the kindney joke! Someone asks to borrow something I ask them to leave a kidney on deposit!

One of the great things about this forum is the range of people from so many different countries all trying to communicate in one language that is not native to us all.

Whats impotortant is what people mean not how we interprate the words. A sincere appology has been given in this case and I think it should be acepted gracefully!! If every time one of us is offended by a post we leave or ask the poster to leave pretty soon there will be no real discussion left.

Just one guys opinion!

Cheers
Guy.

Hi,

Please reconsider your decision.
Once in a while we got upset by some posts....
This is not a ideal way of communication.... and things can go wrong
easily....
From a traditional Chinese culture, we try to forget.
People say it is stupid.
We can never tell, your enemy may become your best friend one day or
vice vera.

But whatever your decision, I respect it.
