Has anybody completed or signed up for the BFP Shoot 'n' Sell Course here in the UK? I've been considering it, and wondered if anybody had any comments? What were the course materials like? Did you complete the course? What sort of sales have you gone on to acheive? I'm a pretty keen amateur at the moment (the proud owner of a D100 amongst other cameras) and a member of my local camera club. I've been pretty successful in competitions and would like to take that next step and see if I can actually make any money out of it.

Hi Andrea,

I started doing this course several years ago but suffered a severe back injury at the same time as following the assignments so never completed it.The course material is well presented but somewhat basic and of more use is actual membership of the BFP whereby you recieve a monthly news letter which has various agencies etc advertizing their specific needs. You also recieve a copy of the Freelance Photographers Handbook detailing specific magazines and agencies containing contact info and their usual requirements. The other thing is you do not gain any qualification as a result of taking the course such as offered by submitting a portfolio to The Royal Photographic Society.

I have had far more success since shooting digitally by setting up my own website and offering prints for sale online and have as a result sold various publishing rights to magazines, book publishers etc.

If you can take well exposed pictures that are well composed then they should be able to sell but it's up to you to target the market of your choice as opposed to them finding you.
