Was the sun behind you? If it was, my guess would be you photographed a very small segment of a rainbow. If not, then it must have been magic :^) PatiO.

I believe this may be a worm hole. I saw it on Star Trek. Be careful not to enter it. You may end up in a place you would rather not be. Yes, definitely a worm hole :-)

cirrus clouds are made of ice crystals...light refaction in the crystals...usually a pre-cursor to rain......that's if they are cirrus...usually very high clouds.

Was that a cloud or a jet contrail?

Age doesn't always bring wisdom. Sometimes age comes alone.

Bud,

You can't be cirrius. (sorry, I couldn't resist - and I know it's cirrus not cirrius).

I'm thinking lens flare from the sun, unless the colors were
visible to your naked eye while taking the picture. If they were,
I'd stick with the worm hole theory :)

Diffraction. Now we can think about what caused the diffraction. Usually water, ice (has been suggested) and seems plausible.

Or that ribbon thing that nailed Kirk in the last movie where he really really died.

Nice shot. I'm with Bud and Steven. Looks like a sundog but have never seen one in connection with jet contrail. Joan

Given the right angle and composition, clouds can diffract light in the same way that a prism or other crystal objects separate light. What you get is a separation of the visible colors of the spectrum. In this case your seeing the oranges. The same process occurs when you get halos around the sun, rainbows, etc. Its all diffraction of one sort or another.

Either that or it's those damned Klingons!
