I exhausted myself and everyone I know when I was deciding which camera to purchase. After much research, I chose the Canon S45. When it works, I love it, but that is not often. Please let me know if you think my camera is a lemon or if there is a problem with the CF card I am using.

When reviewing my photos on the LCD screen, it often says that the image is corrupted. This has happened several times and I figured there was something wrong with the CF card (Viking 256MB card). I exchanged the card (another Viking 256), however I am still having this problem. The LCD either has the error message of CF card error or something about the image being corrupted. I have lost some great pictures because of this and I am very frustrated.

Please let me know if you think I might be doing something wrong or if anyone else has had this problem. I know it sounds like the CF card, but could both card be defective? Please advise. Thanks!

If you haven't done so already, I would reformat your card (in camera) and see if this resolves your problem.

If this doesn't help, maybe trying another brand would help (although it's not likely you would get 2 dud cards in a row, is it?)

Failing this - take the camera back for a new one - you may have gotten an lemon! Good luck!

I've seen threads in this forum noting problems with Viking CF in the Canon s45 and other models. Perhaps trying a different brand CF would help you determine if the problem is in the camera, or the memory card.

I had a very similar problem with my S45. a lot of the pictures came up as corrupt, or came out kind of strange. Have a look-

Any way I'm pretty sure it was a problem with th CF card, but I exchanged the camera too- just incase. Before using the new card I formatted it (as it says to do in the manual) and havent had the same problem.

Oh I wish I never exchanged the camera though, as this one HAS got a problem with it :(

I had a similar problem with my s45 and viking 256 CF. I' ve tried formatting without luck. I'm also starting to get the same problems with a 256 sandisk and can't download to my computer (but I can see most of the pictures on my camera).

any suggestions on how to download?
is this a camera or memory card issue?

Are you getting the same problems with the canon card that it came with?

no, but I only used it once. It's only 32 mb...

I read somewhere on the net that this doesn't happen with canon cards but this is hard to believe.

read this thread. There seems to be a lot of problems with S45 and the Viking 256MB Card.... G3 is probably also affected...

Thanks,

My computer can't read the Viking card at all. Any suggestions on how to download the images?

Will a program like Digital Image Recovery help?

I have also read the threads about the Viking card. I, however, have taken hundreds of shots (and movies) with the Viking 256 and have never had a problem.

Dang.

Nikon is very keen to make some CF cards (read: Ridata) unusable in their cameras. JimTanCanada tried to use his CP5700 with a Ridata 512MB, and the camera always gave him the same CF Card Error.

Either an entire batch of Viking CF cards are corrupted, defective, and faulty; or that Canon has started to hate Viking. :-)
