Hi all,

In the "open file" menue of photoshop usually a preview is shown, if a picture file marked, but only files I "saved as" after retouching for example.Seems, that with my original camera files no preview is available. Are there any preferences to fix that?
Thanks in advance.

If you are using version 5 or larger and a Mac, there should be a button in the open dialogue box to make a thumbnail picture if there isn't one already. I assume there is something like that on PC versions also.

Thanks for your reply, Leon
I'm using 5.5, german version.Seems that there is no such button available.

I can only see previews from files I already opened and savad again with Photoshop. In the help also isn't mentioned about such a feature.Just don't know, why this is different.

I think the computer does not recognize the file format. Open all your files and resave them again as .psd file. That should work. By the way where did all the other files come from?

Heinz,

You never mention if you have a PC or MAC version. I believe the mac and PC versions are different. In this case, MAC has the advantage of generating thumbnails. On PC, only psd files has preview.

GC,

I'm using the PC version.Guess you're right.Thumbnais are only available on psd files.I was just wondering, because in image ready thumbnails are generated.I even re-installed photoshop, but doesn't work.Thats really poor.

I need always an additional viewer or i have to save every file once again as psd.I don't want to change the original camera files, because exif data will be lost.Seems that i have to be content with this.
Thanks for helping

Heinz,

I use a Program called imagefox it gives you previews of
images in the open file dialauge in all of your programs.
It is from ACD Systems:

http://www.acdsystems.com/english/products/index.htm

They have a downloadable demo.
I use the complete package.

ACD See: A photo browser organizer.

Pickaview: Lets you rightclick on an image file in windows explorer and
get a good quick preview

Imagfox: Described above (sort of)

In Win98/ME and Win2k you can set folder settings to view by thumbnail. Works well,
