I don't want to just do what will get votes . . . then I would be a politician! :)

I leave my computer for one weekend and nobody bumps the challenge. :(
Sorry for the delay in starting this challenge but there were
several pressing matters that demanded my attention. Without
further ado here is..... Challenge 7: Movie Poster

Don't let the title scare you, this should be a lot of fun and
really stretch the creativity.

Required Subject: As the Advertising Director of a studio you are
charged with creating an ad campaign to promote your latest film
(either real or fictional). The primary tool for this promotion
will be a movie poster, which will be plastered all over town by
your loyal cadre of street urchins and out-of-work bicycle
messengers.

Challenge Period: Sunday, February 2nd, 2003 until 8 PM PST on
Monday, February 16th, 2003. All photos must be taken and movie
posters submitted during this time period.

Rules: There will be no limitation to creativity or the use of
photo editing software, however all primary images must be taken
with an Olympus digital or dSLR camera during the challenge period.
You are being placed on your honor, please don't abuse the trust.

How To Enter: Rename your poster to the title of your movie. Email
a total of one challenge poster and/or up to two exhibition posters
to [email protected] by 8 PM PST on February 16th, 2003.
Please, ONE poster per email. You MUST put "challenge" or
"exhibition" in the subject line when submitting photos to indicate
which gallery your image should be posted. Please be kind, make
sure the poster you submit is the FINAL version and if possible
email well in advance of the deadline. Entries should provide:

1) Title of Movie
2) Olympus Digicam model
3) Name of photographer (dpreview nickname is fine)
4) Description, A short description of your movie. (optional)

Please make sure you provide the information listed above in a
clear manner. Remember, it is not always possible to determine your
name or nickname from your email address so make sure you provide
either your real name or your nickname.

About Sizing: All entries should be exactly 600x800. Portrait
orientation only.

As per previous challenges the challenge gallery will remain hidden
until the voting period begins. During the voting period
photographers names/nics will be hidden.

Challenge rules can be found at:

http://www.pbase.com/otfchallenge/challenge7

Also keep in mind that many of us will want to know how you did
this so keep track of the settings and process as you create your
masterpiece. I'm not asking that you submit this information with
the entries so that we are clearly judging the final product and
not the methodology. As they say, there is more than one way to
skin a cat but let's not get hung up on that.

This will be the last challenge exceeding El-See's great 12 day
challenge suggestion. The period is longer to accommodate my work
schedule and still get the challenge started, I hope you'll
understand.

Sorry Ian.. we are all too busy rackin' our brains and pushing the limits of our editing skills with the limited resources that we have.... We'll try to be more diligent in the future... (o:

We're just past the half way point for challenge 7 and I hope everyone has wracked their brains and come up with a really interesting idea for their entry.

Not much time left so don't put it all off to the last minute!

I wanted to enter, but I will go on a trip tomorrow and there is no time left ;-( but i am really looking forward seeing all the entries when I am back ;-)

remember.. I am a beginner, although I guess that I am learning fast considering the POTD's ;-))

I made an entry for the challenge and attempted to upload my Poster to my pbase Gallery. Phil has chosen this time to call in all subscriptions ( which I have not yet paid). I have emailed him seeking arrangements to pay as i dont use a credit card. So until such time as my subscription is accepted I dont have access to pbase. Will this prevent me emailing my Poster to you for entry in the Challenge ??? FWIW I dont believe my entry is anything startling but I do like to participate whenever I can and keep the numbers up, it's much more fun.

Cheers,
jack

Nope, it won't prevent entry what-so-ever. Send it in when you are ready including the required info and I'll take care of the rest.

I also don't see the connection but I don't think it would be fair to those who already submitted their challenge entries or those who planned out their shoots based on the current deadline.

Aside from that, the vibe I'm getting is that this isn't the most popular challenge so in the interest of those who don't want to or for whatever reason feel they can't participate I wouldn't want to extend this challenge period at the expense of delaying the next challenge.
Maybe since P-base has been down for a bunch of days, the contest
deadline could be extended?
what does one have to do with the other?

Ok people, we are heading into the weekend before the challenge ends. Let's all get out there and take some terrific photos and massage them into world class movie posters.

For those of you that may still be struggling with multiple ideas or searching for inspiration, feel free to take Skip's great advice and do a search for movie posters in your favorite search engine. You'll find plenty of inspiration.
