Like many others have reported, I was not happy with the neckstrap supplied for the G3 by Canon. It got in the way of opening the CF card door, and impeded use of the swiveling LCD.

Several posts have been made suggesting use of aftermarket straps, including what seems to be bulky hand-held items.

I liked the adjustable strap that Canon supplied for my G1.

So, I got another G1 strap from Canon last week, and it works fine on the G3. I attached it to the side near the CF card. It can be used as a hand-held strap or a neck strap (although the camera dangles from the attached end rather then the more balanced G3 strap). Seems to be a nice compromise to me.

BTW, Canon only had 9 of these left when I got mine. They are about $7.00 + shipping.

Thanks for your suggestion. I don't like the neck strap eithe and was wondering what alternatives there are.

Do you have a picture of your strap? I'm looking for an alternative one as well and wouldn't mind comparing it to the aftermarket ones. The Op/Tech one that lensmateonline sells looks pretty good.

Take the strap that ties on to the LCD side and instead, loop it around the strap on the other side of the camera. It looks and feels like it was meant to work that way... BETTER! :-)

Has anyone tried the Op/Tech Mini Loop or Cam straps? I like the idea of a wrist strap more than a neck strap. If I get both of these with the quick disconnects I could change them out if I wanted it on my wrist or around my neck.

Bob, I also hated the neck strap that came with my G3. I searched the web for a simple wrist strap that was small enough to fit with my camera in my new Loepro camera bag.

None of the camera stores in my town carry wrist straps.

After looking at pictures of a number of different designs, the strap that best met my needs is sold by Simpics. You can see pictures at:

This firm also sells its straps on ebay. I bought mine on e-bay for $6.00 + $2.50 shipping (USD). I am very happy with my purchase, except that I felt the shipping fee was a bit high. For the G3, you remove the split ring from the strap and loop the 3/8-inch nylon through the neck strap slot.

I bought the OPTECH strap, at Adorama, for $14.95. I like it because I can disconnet the neck part, and connect the two ends to give me a smaller nexk, as oppdsed to a shoulder strap. With it disconnected, it can easily be held with the strap wrapped around my hand.

Gordon,

i like that wrist strap by simpics. couldn't find them on ebay

I remember someone posting this idea a while back and I have tried it. It works fine if you're just carrying the camera alone. But if you add a 420ex flash on top then this won't work very well.

Mark, Here is the one I bought, appearing on ebay. Do some searching and you will find others too. As soon as one is sold, another appears on ebay

That link was gone and I don't come up with much when I do a search. I'd like to try that strap, and i'm trying to save a few bucks. if you read this and you see the link please send again. I'm puzzled why I can't find more than a couple of wrist straps.

Thanks
