Max should not be legal

I agree on the monopoly but the legal issues there are settled now and irrelvant to this thread.

However, I wish someone would go after the Office monopoly. That si WORSE on a Mac! At least on a PC you have a choice of office suites.

BTW if you buy an Intel box, you can run Linux!

The monoply issue is real enough, but Canon, Dell, IBM, Hard Drive
Cascades, ... are nto a monopoly.

The issue here is not whether MS has a monoply on SW (BTW ..ALL
these machines run Office , a far more serious monopoly that
whether the HW coems from Dell or Comoputer-on-the-corber),
Is your keyboard broken? You seem to be saying something about MS having a monopoly on office/productivity SW. This is true, but tangential and doesn't blunt the point that has been made.

You might be saying something else, but it's just not worth the bother of tyring to decipher it all.

In general we (res scientists) are very careful on how e use $$ ..after all if I buy a Mac as a toy, I can't buy nucleotides with the money.

Nor would I seriously want more regulation of what I spend.

BUT, the willingness of scientists to buy Macs illustrates the regiosity of the marketing that Jobs does.

My home machine, discussed lesewhere in this thred, is a lot cheaper than a Mac, alot more powerful AND a lot ore likley to be wround int wo years as still state of the art (perhaps with a motherboard transplant when the 64bit boards become real), then is any Mac. Heck, I may be running Lindows by then!

Ron,

Other raised the monoply issue. But, while we are at it, I have stopped buying Office for machines that do not use it everyday. I put StarOffice on those machines.

No, tghe keyboard is not broken .. I am type challenged.

Is she using OS 9 or OS X ??

They are completly different beasts. OS 9 is based on a cooperative multitasking and tends to freeze a lot.

OS X is based on a BSD kernel (taken from Next). And is extremly stable. you can run things for months.
This is hardly most folks experience. My wife uses a Mac and it
bombs once or twice a day. The machine I am on now, a custom XP
machine, simply never bombs.

Max should not be legal in government purchases. I see a lot of
Max in research labs. A FEW ARE JUSTIFIED by special SW.
Otherwise I think it is wrong to allow tax funds to be spent this

Now that my Mac vs PC thread is over, we've got this new one.
Why dont you just buy one of the new Mac Duals with a Cinema Display and OS X so you can come over this obsession, which more and more looks like secret love, and come to peace with yourself.
As a Mac-user you will have more fun.

I am not qualified to debate this, but my understanding is that Win
dows was bulit on Berlely UNIX. TRhe article you refer to does not
rule this out, it somply points to similarities to VMS and the fact
that the NT team cam from DEC.
It is amazing how people confuse history! It is obvious that, within the next two years, Microsoft will have invented:

1. Interactive computing.
2. TCP/IP
3. GUI interface
4. personal computers
5. the mouse
6. (and within 11.3 months) digital photography

I gather Microsoft will be suing AT&T for patent and copyright infrigements because of the similarity between WinNT and Unix!! It is also rumoured that MIT will be sued, for similar reasongs, for various aspects of X11. A California university will be trounced upon because their TCP/IP does not match Microsoft's original implementation.

No thx, I do not have the money to waste and my PCs do all what I need. About the fun, I have more games on the PC side also ;-).

I thought that trolling was against forum rules. The 9th rule states:

Trolls - Anyone deliberately antagonizing other forum users by posting 'flame bait' type messages are not welcome. See first rule.

This arguement is pointless. We've got Mac bigots and PC bigots. Buy what you want. Let everyone else buy what they want.

Also, the US Army switched to Mac servers for security reasons. See http://www.dtic.mil/armylink/news/Sep1999/a19990901hacker.html
Seems that might be a good use of taxpayers money.

Cheers,

Luis,

I know OS X is a big imporvement. Funtionally it is very like XP. One prob;lem I ahve seen wi OSX is that the legacy trick, comaptibility box?, doe snto work well and will crash the machine even with MS apps.

Also, doe OS X have the real time repair/report features of XP?

I will match dollar for dollar all contributions otward my buying a Mac. Whe we get to the price, I will be ahppy to buy a Mac. My estimate is that the ourchase price of a Mac equivalent to my current PC would be about 6500, so all we need to come up with is about 3500. I will be ahappy to list out the items if some Maxie can find a way to get things cheaper.

Oh, I get it now... you're illiterate and can't spell.

"Max is a good doggie..."
"Macs are a type of computer."

Macintosh -> Name
Macintishes --> fails spell checker.
You can't even get it right on the second pass...

"Me brain hurts!" - Monty P.
"Doh!" - Homer S.
"Drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son." - Dean Wormer
"Space - the final frontier..." - J. T. Kirk, Captain
Macintosh--> Mac

Macintishes--> Max

happy now?

The "troll under the bridge" was from "Three Billy Goats Gruff" and ate (wait for it.... ) goats. Or at least he tried to...

I guess your illiteracy explains why you never read this story when you first started your childhood. Eventually you'll get to it, I suppose. Then you can post meaningful, well-spelt trolls.
Tsk tsk.

"Stupid is as stupid does..." - F. Gump.
Yep,

I live under the bridge, watching for happy children.

Call me ogre.
