I am looking for recomendations of good internet sites for getting digital
picture printed. Specifically Printed with the quality and paper of regular
photographs. The only one I found was Kodak's PhotoNet, but it is extreamly
slow and only one picture at a time can be uploaded.

Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

I have tried Kodak's Photonet and the pictures came back with exceptional quality.

Yesterday I uploaded about 15 pitures to printroom at about 1/2 the cost of kodak.
And if you order more then $20 shipping is free.

Looking forward to getting the pictures back.

Keep us posted. I'm still waiting on mine. I received an e-mail on Sunday from printroom.com and they said they were shipping first class mail. I hope it arrived today, I'll find out when I get home.

I received my pictures from printroom.com last night. I'm not as happy about them as I thought I'd be. They do come on real photo paper, but that's the extent of it.

Compared to my Epson 750:

The images are not as sharp as my 750. I've been told that all prints on photo paper, even those from negatives look a little grainy, I'm not sure I believe this. I've got photo's laying around from a 35mm that look very sharp. I just don't have any other photo's to compare this to. Fact is, they are not as sharp as my prints from my 750.

The color is not analyzed correctly on each photo. Either they analyzed each picture wrong, or they only analyzed one of the photo's. I've got blue sky's on photo's taken at night. It's definately black on the digital image. I understand that photo paper only recordes reverse images, so my digital images have to be reversed before exposing them to the paper, but I'm not happy with the results.

Anyone have anything to add? I'd love to hear them.

I tried one of those services before and for the price you pay that's going to be as good as you get (for now anyways until more and more digital cam invade the population). The only way to get great results is by paying the extra cash for it being professionally done.

I have since bought a 750 and stopped using those services alltogether... I figure I can adjust my output to what I like and then print it out (time consuming thou) but get beautiful results. I have one of those rotary cutters so cutting them up to 4x6 are not a problem neither..

Well I got my pictures back from the Printroom, I have to admit, I was not as
happy as I was with the pictures from Kodak. The color was a bit off, although
this could be as much my fault as theres. Both of you have mentioned that the

epison 750 created GREAT pictures. I have been using a HP 66Cse and the pictures
are good, but close up you can see the pixles or dots of the printer. the 8x10
I had done from Kodak was perfectly clear. Is the epison 750 that much better
then the HP?

I came here to tell people about the EZPrints service but it looks like there are threads already started so I'll stick in my 2 cents. I used a Nikon Coolpix 950 to take the pictures and used 1024 X 768 fine mode.

The service is EZPRINTS.COM. You have to download a piece of software which is like a wizard that steps you through the questions of selecting pictures and deciding the size of each.

You can select 4x6 ($0.49ea), 5x7 ($0.99ea), 8x10, mugs, mouse pads, t-shirts, etc. The software is extremely easy to use. There is a minimum $5 order and shipping is $1.95 for the total order. I ordered (2) 5x7 and (7) 4x6 and the total was $7.23. I sent them on Monday evening and the pictures were in my mailbox on Thursday. I think the lab is in Kissimmee, Florida and I'm in Phila, PA. They came back on Kodak paper and I love the quality. I'm hooked. Since paper copies of photos doesn't tend to be an immediate need I can't be bothered dealing with printers and paper and cartridges. I highly recommend this service and no I'm not at all associated with them. I'm curious to see how well 1200 X 1600 photos turn out.

One thing to watch - the software allows you to place the picture on the paper so to speak. If you use the defaults you get while lines down the edges of the pictures which are about 1/4" wide. The sofware allows you to crop/fit to go edge to edge. I didn't notice it until I had placed the order.

Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to try them out. Did you compare the online service vs. any that you printed? If so, what kind of printer did you use, I'm sure others are interested as well

I just sent my second order to printroom.com - the first one came in
absolutely perfect, except for 2 pictures, which upon closer
examination in photoshop I can blame only on myself.
B&W's were way better than what I can ever get on my ink jet.
I tried ezprints before, but they ship their orders by bulk mail and it
took 2 weeks to get them to CA. The quality was pretty good, but printroom's
was marginally better plus I like their free albums and the fact
that I don't have to order prints for the whole family myself.
I have a 750, but if you consider all the hassle and cost, for 4x6's
you can't beat printroom's service. For larger sizes it's a toss up,
but if it is something I want to put on the wall I would go with the
wet photo process as well - won't have to reprint it in 6 months.

Robert,

Which camera and resolution did you use for the pictures?

I use Nikon CP-950, 1600x1200. I usually shoot in normal mode.
The biggest problem so far has been a distinct yellow shift when
I shoot indoors without an external flash. This shift is
really noticeable in fresh tones on wet processed prints. It is
not as bad on a 750. Other than that I can't complain about the
camera's quality.

Thanks. I have the C2000Z. I'm going to try them out as soon as I get a good sample of pictures together.

Bill, you may want to check out this new reatil based digital camera printing service from Kodak.

Affordable, easy to use great quality...as simple as dropping off a roll of film! You can get the details at http://www.kodak.com/go/picturecenter

Bill,

Are you printing your 8x10's at 150 dpi? To get a really pixel free image, if that's what you're after, you'll need to print at about 225 dpi but 150 dpi is sort of good enough. I often print 19x13 which comes out at about 80+ dpi. Pixels are visible at this resolution but it's still an impressive and large picture.

Try printing a few at 4x6 400dpi. These will look like film photographs.

I know Sony also has an "Imagestation" and charges $9 for an album (50 prints). Has anybody used them?

Jerry,

Tried EZPRINTS, to back the photos and I must say that they are by far the
best in service and price. Had prints back 3 days before my printroom and
7 days before kodak.

New comparison, This weekend I gave up on my HP660cse and got an Epson 750

WOW

WOW

There was a tremendous difference between the two. So far if you compare
all of the online print people to the Epson 750, EPSON has them NAILED!
Both in sharpness and color depth, the only problem is that I figure it costs
close to 1$ to make a single 4x6 print.

HP660cse vs Epson 750 - We are not even going to talk about it!

BTW all pictures for comparision were taken with a KD280 @ 1800x1200(close)
with best compression.
