I bought some new foam core boards today, and shot the same flower against 3 different backgrounds - black, gray, and white (to which I applied a gradient). Which do you like best?

But I think the grey would look super with a real lemony yellow or a true red, maybe a dazzling white.
Super pic of a Gerbera.

Frank, what exactly is foam core board? It might go under a different name here.

Very nice picture. I have to go with the black then the white and way down the list the gray.

I find it in art/craft supply businesses in my area also.

It's made of two pieces of paper bonded to either side of a piece
of stiff foam. Try a full service office supply store, and I'd
imagine they'll know what it is.

Owner and user of 990 and 5700 and Photoshop. When looking at my pictures, never take it for granted I didn't enhance them.... :-)

Frank,

The black is still the most dramatic to me, but the white is interesting with its gradient.

Very nice work.

Frank, I think they all look really good......the problem would be with printing one at home......then definetly the white.

I like the white the best. It isn't quite white on my screen. It has a greenish tint. What's up? On purpose? my screen? white balance?

Apart from the grey, I think both black and white looks good. Black have better contrast, however, white back ground do have make the subject more harmony with the background.

The black acts as a nice contrasty frame for the flower. The flower is well exposed and really pops on that background. I'd have to say in order:

1: black

2: white

3: gray (it seems to have too much noise in it for my liking)

I treated the white background with the gradient tool in Photoshop. Plain white was too stark, so I tried to create the impression of sunlight coming from the upper right corner.

The white is very nice, I like the gradient very much. The black is ok, but the the grey looks like there is a lot of noise. Is that digital noise or is it texture on the board ?
Did you do the gradient with light or in post PS ?
