I pretty much missed it, it caught me by suprise.. then an ERR 2. I did get a few frames off though. It was a minute early, and now they say they can't find it. I'm a bit worried about it!

Here's a shot, no crop from Dallas.

it's right there in you photograph..........LOL

I guess it was in one piece a few seconds before I took that shot, and in this shot there are several pieces! I've never seen it, so I thought this was normal.

This sound very bad. They have video of this on television. The higher resolution pictures might be helpful.

My manual focus is bad, and I was nervous. I would have done better but the shuttle was too early. Something was seriously wrong.

Yes, I it apparently blew up about 15 seconds before this shot.

Was the clock in the camera set to the correct time?

What is the EXIF time of the shot.

Our prayers to the families of the crew.

As with many things in life a great photograph has strong appeal for what is NOT in the picture.

The shot was taken at 8:00:37 here in Dallas. This means the shuttle was minutes early... I guess it couldn't slow down due to some hydraulic issue.

Very sad.

From CNN website:

On launch day, a piece of insulating foam on the external fuel tank came off during liftoff and was believed to have struck the left wing of the shuttle. NASA said as late as Friday that the damage to the thermal tiles was believed to be minor and posed no safety concern during the fiery decent through the atmosphere.

this morning as we were going to breakfast. Hope that everything is okay but I doubt it.

Actually it was like a laoud bang with two smaller ones right after it.

Kanon1Ds. Focus speed and resolution beyond belief.

Kmetz 54 What a great flash...buy it now. Dead on exposure in almost all situations.
Kanond30...will be selling. Great camera though

Kanon550EX ..sold...not accurate enough..needs too much user intervention. I want to concentrate on the image not the equipment.

Kanon85mm1.2 Beautiful lens extra sharp. Slow focusing compared to other lenses.
Misspelled on purpose to avoid search engine pickup...

I heard that mentioned on Fox News, but thought they were recounting the few past problems with shuttle flights.

This is total speculation, but since it was moving too fast, it might have been the extra speed (heat) combined with the weakened tiles on the wing.

I guess we'll find out.
