I own three Mavica's ... First a model 81 at work great camera good resolution , but only a 3X lens... I bought a model 71 (because of the cost difference) in April of '99... after shooting over eight thousand pictures (mostly Nature shots) I decided to upgrade to the model 91 (May 2000)I chose the 91 over the 95 because of the 14X on the 91 vs. 10X lens on the 95, although there were things I liked better about the 95 (higher res and external flash) I have take approx five thousand pictures with the 91 and still love it ... best of all about the Mavica's is the 3.5 floppy disk storage and ease of transfer to the computer. ... NOW they have come out with the CD1000 with a 3.5 CD-R for storage... but it is way to expensive when you consider the cost of the divorce.Any thoughts on the Sony Mavica? I saw it on volumebuy.com

low light performance left something to be desired. I currently have the
DSC-S70 cybershot, great in low light and small / lightweight. great cam.
great shots !
Which one? There are many 99 and 00 Mavica models out there. They
acocunt for about 40% of all U.S. digicam sales. The two main Mavica
forums are http://www.mavican.nu/cgi-bin/boards/mavica.pl and
http://www.mavican.com/ .

I have just given the FD7 to my 13 year old daughter.
Got the FD90 as soon as it came out this Spring. trouble was I was so
impressed by the superior photos over the old FD7 I became hooked on
quality and wanted more! So I got the S70 which I now use 90% of the
time. I am going to keep the FD90 though just for the 8X/16X lens. These
photos are not great quality but it would not even be possible to take
them with the S70.
Once I discovered High resolution images the floppy drive lost some of
its allure for me. I drag my cameras on hiking and climbing trips!
Taking a tone of floppies along aswell just isn't an option!

Hi,If you can afford it, get the CD1000. It's the best all-around digicam
on the market.

To show that i am not a totally Sony fanatic i have to give just a
little contra to your opinion.
It seems the new Oly C2100 will be a good rival to the CD1000.
Okay if you are fascinated by the storage philosophy of the new Sony
they are no competitors in the moment.
Regarding the flexibilty, the Oly offers a full manual mode and if the
picture quality is okay i would consider it too because of the price. In
the moment
in germany they are selling the Sony for 1700 US (the Oly is announced
for around 1200 USD). Of course i don't know how it is in the states.
Just my opinion.

So does (will) the Olympus 2100.CD1000 has the image stabilizer, right ?
Yup.So does (will) the Olympus 2100.CD1000 has the image stabilizer, right ?

Rodger,The Oly has more controls for advanced amateures, and if the zoom and IS
perform as well as the CD1000 it could beocme a very popular digicam.
Differences in storge media might be the deciding factor for many buyers.
