I see that B&H has two used D60's described as "10" for
$1759. It's very tempting (rumours of pma notwithstanding).
Thoughts?

I think that is a great deal. It's $440 below new cost! I have bought many items used from B & H as a "10" and they have always looked and functioned brand new.

Thanks for your recommendation. I've bought lenses from them
in the past, but I've just been watching for a few months
hemming about when to get a dslr (I've got an elan 7e).

I guess I still don't understand the price -- they seem to
be undercutting ebay even.

A used D60 rated "10" at B&H probably means it's refurbished. Which probably means they paid less than $1700 for the camera.

On eBay, you're getting listings from private owners who paid $2200 for the camera. So of course they'll want to list the prices pretty high. And then take into effect the mindless bidding frenzy that happens on eBay, and of course B&H prices look great.

It'd be a real easy money maker to buy the D60s from B&H and turn around and sell on eBay for an easy $200 profit right now.

Well, a quick search will tell you that B & H are respected on these boards and, obviously, quite a bit of the demand for the D60 went unsatisfied.

So I would imagine the cameras will be snapped up pretty quickly. $1759 is an excellent price for sure.

Despite all the rumours, I think the next generation of prosumer DSLR will offer a larger sensor, maybe a reduced FOV crop and that's pretty much it- apart from a few minor tweaks. Quite a few are predicting that Canon will release a second tier pro DSLR at the same price point as the D60 or maybe $1000 to $1500 more. Doubtful, I think.

Even if they do, you could probably sell the B & H D60 at a profit on Ebay even after the release of the replacement at PMA.

The question for you is, is the D60 enough of a camera for your actual photographic needs. If so, then it's a terrific deal.

RE: Your comment about PMA (D40/D80), remember, if you want to be able to use it THIS YEAR, then don't bother waiting. Supplies of the next generation cameras won't be readily available for quite some time I'm sure. Sure it'll drive the prices down but if you want something now.... And you'll be helping the economy! ;-P

(Hey, we purchased a house and I bought a diamond engagement ring, I've done MY part to help the economy, it's everyone elses turn now!)

I went ahead and ordered one. I think they must have gotten a shipment
of refurbished ones, as there are still two listed now (different part #'s from
the one I ordered)

I don't photograph sports or anything where fast AF is really neccessary,
(mostly travel and at concerts) so I think the D60 will be more than enough
camera for me.

Thanks again for the advice

You better buy it fast if you want it. After posting it on this board it will not last long. A 10 at B&H usually means a factory refurb. I have bought lenses like this and I think the D60 for $1759 is a bargain.

Oh, go ahead Willa. Cancel the Viking range. LOL. Willa's remodeling her kitchen. Adam and I keep urging her to get a DSLR.

Just checked B&H.

They're gone : (

unless you gotta have a camera now! Historically speaking the replacement model tend to be either at the same price or lower than the one it replaced. Look at what happened between the D30 and D60. I will never buy any used digital camera. People tend to shoot alot with digital. They rackup the frame number while the body is still in prestine condition. A "10" for digital cam only applicable to the cosmetic and that the cam is working without any info on the milleage. For me, the milleage is always more important than cosmetic.
