G3 and 380ex

Sorry to contradict you, Olga. I previously had a 380EX with the
colour cast issue, now I´ve got a 420EX and no more cast in all WB
presettings.. I much more prefer the 420 for its extended
capabilities and I find it more compact than the 380. Johannes
Sounds like you have not actually taken a shot and looked at it on
your computer monitor. With the 420EX, the LCD shows you the
correct hue. Take the actual shot and then look at it on your
computer monitor to see what the result looks like. It does not
match the LCD.

Took about a dozen shots last night at my son´s school theatre -
WB set to flash. LCD picture and monitor picture were the same.
Johannes
Johannes,

Hard to tell from that shot. Could you do me a favour and take two shots of the same thing. One in Auto WB and one in Flash WB, bouncing the light?

Thanks!

Here they are, as one can see they differ in their color temperature, flash WB is warmer, but this is shown so on my LCD, too. A matter of taste or circumstance - one has to find out... But the problem - let me say this although I´m sure you know - with the 380EX is an extreme red or green cast and sometimes rebooting of the camera after shooting in other flash WB modes than auto. Johannes
NB As you can see - it´s snowing in Berlin...

Thank you very much. What you are calling the "warmer" WB is what I consider the yellow/orange shift with the G3+420EX combo. At first some folks did try to convince me that it's merely "warmer". I don't see it that way because it does not depict correct lighting or colors. It becomes even more pronounced when you take closer shots. Have you noticed the difference of the scene when you look at the LCD v. what the real outcome is?

As to the snow, all I can say is better you than me. :-) I lived in Colorado for 25 years and have seen enough snow for a lifetime. Snow is not a friend of mine. :-) Not that we don't see it in Dallas... we had a sampling just a couple of weeks ago.

Guess you´re right, Olga. I think this issue can and shuld be fixed by a firmware update. So come on Canon, G3 is been out now three months, get it together, G3 firmware is due to be worked over!
