NIXVUE and/or Minds@work

The Vote seems to be NIXVUE.

Decided, will get the 30 Gbyte version. Thank you all for your feedback. Luminous-landscape (Michael. T and Michael R.) clinched the issue.

I have been using the PP for quite a while and have had nothing but
great success with it.

I wrote a follow up review to Michael Reichmann's review here...

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/accessories/efilm-vista.shtml

I use the Firewire adpater and it works great. I and several of my
peers have had a lot of problems with many other brands of these
devices, so I can heartily recommned the Picture Pad as being
flawless after 1000's of files downloaded.

Glad that it was helpful..

I can't speak for the Nixvue support, but the Delkin support has been very good when I first had questions about the PicturePad.

Adi:

Since you have already decided perhaps this is superfluous.

I went through the same process a couple of months ago and if you do a search on the "storage" forum on this site you will find complaints about every device out there.

I needed something small and simple that would allow me to dump my 1G microdrive contents without a fancy graphic display of images, which was re-chargable in most places around the world, all connectors etc came standard and which had either a USB 2 or firewire interface.

I went with mindstor 30G version since that fit all the above criteria and was the cheapest. Have used it only on one trip so far and it has worked like a charm.

Everyone's mileage is different, I guess. Just my experience, for what it's worth.

Pradeep.

PS. Good luck on your trip. Post some pics when you get back.

Yep, I own a mindstore 20gig HD. Been using it since last december.
It works great. Have nothing to say against it. For now, it's a
reliable product. I'll test it more when I go to New Orleans in 3
weeks also.
and you are going to eat at Mosca's!!
Sorry not to be more helpfull.

Hi Adi,

I've purchased the Nixvue 30G for my trip to Vegas for CES. In one night I took 2GB of JPGs from the the AVN awards show. Worked like a charm. Was so scared to really push it, but when it came down to cruch time it worked as everyone else has said flawlessly.

I do have some gripes, but in every product theres bound to be some. I think the LCD display doesn't show all the colors or something because my pictures when viewed on the display showed like an 8-bit file. None the less, I used it for storage. I had also brought a laptop with me, but didn't offload/backup any pictures. I only used it to view and possibly edit any pictures if need be.

I haven't tried to view raw files on it, but it does claim to do so. The device is only USB1.1 and man it is slow. 45-60 mins to transfer 2.8GB of pictures. There is however a USB2.0 attachment. That would be awesome...but alas I still only have a USB1.1 interface.

There is also another device that I played with at the CES. The company is called ARCHOS. The device I played with was the AV140 which arcording to the specs is a 40GB HDD w/ USB2.0. Plays MP4 Video and is a MP3 Music Player and Recorder. Can view videos and photos on TV or the built in LCD.

This is pretty much similar to the Nixvue but it doesn't have support for the raw files, and when you're viewing your pictures on the tv and try to rotate the pictures it doesn't show up. That bug we found at the show is related according to the guy there was never identified and was proably due to the resolution of the picture.

You can find the information via their website @ http://www.archos.com . The one thing that the website fails to mention is the new product that they will be selling (around march I think) which was on display at the CES. I have the product sheet here for it. I think if I had waited I would have wanted to get this device. Its the AV340. Same features as the 140, but also includes a photo wallet and viewer (which I belive isn't much of a feature) and a large 3.8" LCD screen (which I bleive the 140 was a 1.8" screen) which would be kinda awesome if you want to show the pictures to people after you view them, also you can play divx movies that you saved onto the hdd (with all that HDD space what would you do?) the night before when you get bored ;p.

Cool. You lucky dog.
I have the Vista (Christmas gift from my wonderful wife). I love
it. Works great, no problems. Does display D60 CRWs (RAW) files
(that's all I have on it) and, according to their published info,
RAWs for several other brands/models.

I recommend it.
