NIXVUE and/or Minds@work

Yep, I own a mindstore 20gig HD. Been using it since last december. It works great. Have nothing to say against it. For now, it's a reliable product. I'll test it more when I go to New Orleans in 3 weeks also.

Sorry not to be more helpfull.

so far I have had two mindstors crash on me, since I hav been using two oter devices a picture pad and vista, both are working flawessly but if you want to preview things its very slow, I only use them as staorage and they are both great. I would avoid the Mindsatwork company as beyond bad dirves I found there attitude and customer support to be reprehensible.

Anyone have any experience with these as portable storage devices?
Going to south africa for 3 weeks and do not want to carry my
laptop!!
I've got a 20G MindStor. The first time I took it with me was a 5 week trip to East Africa. Worked like a dream.

At home I use it a as backup drive. The FireWire interface makes this feasible (USB 1.0 or 1.1 is waaaaay too slow).

Whatever you decide: get a device with a FireWire or USB 2.0 interface!

I got a Minds@Work Mindstor PSS-1810 10 gig unit along with my D60 in September and have been very happy with both items. Firewire speed is a big plus. I wouldn't even consider a USB 1.1 device - very, very slow to download. One note about the Mindstor - get extra battery packs, at least two. I went through two sets of batteries in a heavy day of shooting a couple of gigs. The Mindstor AC adaptor (used to power the unit and charge the batteries) is compatible with 100-240V, so you should be able to use it abroad with just a plug adaptor. The Mindstor is by far the cheapest unit out there. Got mine on Ecost.com for $275.

The Nixvue Vista, sold in the US under the Delkin brand, has a built-in color LCD for reviewing images - very nice - but costs over $500 and probably can't display RAW files in any case. Also, the Firewire adaptor is an extra purchase.

I have the Vista (Christmas gift from my wonderful wife). I love it. Works great, no problems. Does display D60 CRWs (RAW) files (that's all I have on it) and, according to their published info, RAWs for several other brands/models.

I recommend it.

On MY latop you mean. No, but now that you bring it up. Have you lost any work due to laptop crashing?

I bought an Mindstor 10GB, for the Firewire connection to use with my
portable PC. This is my third portable storage device and my new
Mindstor had a problem, I could not remove the battery cover without
using a screwdriver. I took it back to the store and the salesperson said
they are always hard to removed. He was trying to be smart about it and
I said if you can remove the cover I will take it. Could not get it off and
three other sales personal tried. I exchanged the defective one for
another one of the same model and type. That one would get
"DISK NO READY" error when the Mindstor got half full of photos.

So I sent it in to Minds@Work to get if repaired and they sent me a brand
new one. That one works fine. Cannot recommend the product because

of the problems I went through. For some people Mindstors work fine, for others like me we have a problem with them.

So it like poker with Mindstor, you might have a winning hand or not.

I have been using the PP for quite a while and have had nothing but great success with it.

I wrote a follow up review to Michael Reichmann's review here...

I use the Firewire adpater and it works great. I and several of my peers have had a lot of problems with many other brands of these devices, so I can heartily recommned the Picture Pad as being flawless after 1000's of files downloaded.
