MacBibble is out and it is fast!

I would love to give it a try but just can't download it - is there a problem with the Bibble server, or something at wrong at my end?

I tried to download MacBibble 3.0 last night at home and again this morning with no luck.

I sent an e-mail to notify them so knowing how fast Eric responds to things it will be fixed in a hurry.
I know I'm looking forward to trying it.

Gary

Has anybody been able to download the new MacBibble? Please post if you are able to download, along with the date and time you downloaded.

My guess is that the Bibble web server is overwhelmed as all of us try to download the new version.

Something seems to be wrong with the web link for downloading it. You can ftp (through a terminal window) to 66.228.211.14, log in with anonymous and an email address as userid. "cd bibble" set "bin" for binary and "get MacBibble300.sit".

That is how I got it anyway...

Oops, that was supposed to read "...log in with anonymous as userid and an email address as password"

Thanks Tom.

That worked, once I typed the command "bin" rather than "set bin". It's been a while since I used FTP in terminal mode...

Hey, thanks much.
Downloading via FTP worked perfect.
Download time via T1 took only a few min.
Thanks again,
Gary

Good to hear positive buzz about this version. Now all we need to do is wait for the next version so that Canon Raw Files may possibly be convertable.

I hope to keep that time short evan.

This was a very busy year for Bibble labs, and I since it had already been so long since the last version of MacBibble, I made the hard decision to push the Canon support out to the next version in order to not delay this version any longer.

It is fast! But after having taken all this time some of the major flaws of the program still exist. Click white still gives no neutral gray and with no color readout I do not know until I open the saved image in Photoshop what the color balance really is. Yes NC 3.5 is broken in this area too, but I can at least adjust it to give a neutral gray and can see what the color values are.

I'll take quality over speed any day. It is to bad, this could be a good program, but the needs of professional are ignored.

My reply from the other board that you posted the same message at:

Doyle,

Click white itself will not guarentee exactly equal RGB values for grey, it merely sets the white point for the image based on a grey sample that is used to tune the profiles. After that point, Color management and other operations (Autoleveling) take place that may not yield not exctly exactly equal color samples. In other terms, click white is a linear operation, and may not generate unity values all along the curve and / or may be hindered by other opertations later in the pipeline.

On the other hand if you use the dropper tools provided on the curves/histogram control...Lets say the grey dropper, A Curve is applied to the image late in the pipe and is a nonlinear function. This should just about always yiled the results you are expecting.

As for the RGB display, guilty as charged, It on my list of things that didn't get done for this version, but will be in the next. Had to draw the line somewhere. And at least in my book, it doesn't qualify as a "major flaw".

Sorry it doesn't seem that MacBibble is for you, and I wish you good luck waiting for your concerns with Nikon Capture to be addressed.

Eric

Eric,

Congrats on getting the new version out. Given that you are now focused on Canon support for the next version, and given that I DO understand software development schedules VERY well (muliply current estimate by age on Thursday next, subtract extraneous BBQ schedule, etc.) do you have a rough ballpark estimate for when we Canonians might expect to see a MacBibble on their computers? Thanks,
Phil

Downloaded and tried it just to see.....I had such hopes! Now I'll just have to go sell a few pictures so I can buy a new G4 I guess. I was really looking forward to working with MacBibble and RAW images.

Sorry ed.

I've tried to support the older machines via Os9, but there are some features that Bibble needs in the new chips and OS's in order to run well, hence I wasn't able to support the older stuff.

That said, when you sell your pictures and get a shiny new g4, you are in for a treat 8)

Eric,
After waiting for so long I hate to say it, but I am very disapointed too....

I don't think I have an old machine: a Powerbook G3 processor 300 MHz with 192 MB Memory running OS 10.2.3 and using a Fuji FinePix S2.

I gave it a try and the software is so sloooooooooooooow, in the end I have to force to quit.
Imagine that!
