OT: Alerting to ebay scams

Honestly these days I think ebay is MOSTLY scams, at least when you get to higher end equipment. I thought about bidding on a Canon 17-35L a few days ago until I asked the seller a question and got a rather humorous response explaining how he got the lens and why he was selling it.
I konw this is going to be hard to believe, but I found a scam
auction for a 1D. How do I go about reporting the sale to Ebay? I
checked their site and did not see anything about reporting.

FYI:

It is a good deal though, only $1200 Western Union!

I konw this is going to be hard to believe,
Ya ya ya.. I dont believe you...

Ebay scams? Come on.. That never happens...

LOL

The best way to stop the scam is to bid a price that you would agree to and pay with a credit card or nothing at all.. If you KNOW its a scam, just bid something like 5 times the price on it.. No one except the scammer is going to expect you to actually pay that.. (or even try ) as soon as a scammer sees the high bid, it will be taken down.

After the crummy treatment I've received at the hands of mean forum members that like to be mean, I'll never report another e-Bay scam again.

But for your benefit, this auction, if you check the link again, has been pulled.

On eBay, go to safe harbour to lodge any form of complaint.
Really, statistically, only a very small percentage are scams.
Warning signs:
1. Accept only Western Union, Money Order (or the like)
2. Private bidders list

3. No feedback or feedback for a bunch of low dollar items, usually to just a few buyers and sellers.
4. No response to enquiries (ask for a serial number!)
5. If it is too good to be true - it is

Warning sign 5 is the best advise. If its too good to be true... I have seen a number of items that make you think twice. Then I laugh when I get a reply to questions. My favorite: I run a russian orphanage and the kids need to eat...

Beyond that, my experience is that many of the private sales are good people selling good equipment.
