Splendid shots (although I was expecting some industrial archaeology :))

Hints about the lighting would be great.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Or, get out your 50mm/1.2L.

At ISO 1000, I would bet the lighting was ambient.

The first shot is great.

I am not a fan of the second.

I think the pose/focal length/dof are all wrong.

I like both of them which lens did you use?

I just noticed the 1/2000th shutter speed.

How did you use the flash? In HSS?

Can a flash in HSS really give you 11 or so stops above ambient? I would guess at f4, you would have needed 1/100 to 1/250 in a well lit room.

This is truly confusing me...
Thanks for your feedback.
The light is not ambient, it is my Canon 580 flash.

I had to go to high speeds due to the strong ambient coming from behind the subject as not to blow out the windows... I also needed high ISO as my flesh wasn't quite powerful enough to properly eliminate the subject. that's just the way it worked out.

the subject is doing the best she can as she is not a model and does not know posing... this is a simple single light set up.
He's referring to her skin tone, or white balance. Has nothing to do with her posing. Looks fine to me though. Beautiful shots.

Indeed. For that, you'd need the Canon 580,000,000,000,000 EX.

And nobody has fired one of those off since the test ban treaty.

Nice work Mark! Have you notice that this new interface is degrading your photos (fuzzy and pixelated) --especially on vertical images! However, if you click on the link just below your photos that goes to your gallery view, one can enlarge them there and see great quality. The problem is, that few people are going to do this, and they will just think you don't know how to focus! :(

We all need to complain and see if there is a software fix.
