Open Letter To Olympus & Informal Survey

Which one of these lenses would you rather put on on your OM-D? Both are weather sealed. This one weighs 2 pounds, costs $2300 and takes a 77mm filter. It is the faster lens....
The 14-35 any day of the week, if the OMD has a grip on it. There is no comparison between those lenses optics wise. The 12-35 is a turd in comparison. The 14-35 may be big, but it is F2.0 which means a better shutter speed for many which is important.

I think a more valid comparison would be the 12-60 vs. 12-35. The 12-60 has more range, is far better optically, and in between in size. There is also the 14-54.

But lets go in a different direction. What about the 300/2.8? it's a fraction of the size of a 600/4 on FF. A 600/4 on FF is just as goofy size wise as a 300/2.8 would be on an OMD w/grip. But the whole package would be MUCH smaller.

It seems people always compare normalish types of lenses when it comes to m4/3 and size. The reality is that m4/3 doesn't have a huge size advantage over small entry level aps-c dslr bodies and small primes. Yeah it's smaller and lighter than the dslr equiv, but both are not heavy or big enough to be a burden. Where 4/3 and m4/3 really shine size wise is ultra tele and ultrawide. it's the extreme focal lengths where things start getting truly big and heavy.

I want something fairly fast with good AF-C tracking ability that can use lenses like the 50-200, 300/2.8 etc. I don't care if it uses OVF or EVF. I want the ability to use these lenses that are better than anyone elses, on a body that has good noise control and DR, which the OMD's sensor system has.

The HG and SHG lenses are the best that exist from anyone. I've always wanted to use them. Now that 4/3 sensors have performance that is good enough for most all uses... They shouldn't abandon these awesome pieces of glass. Except for the exotic Oly primes like the 12,45, and 75mm lenses, there isn't anything for m4/3 that comes close to the better 4/3 lenses. The 75-300 Oly and Panny 100-300 lenses are a joke in comparison to something like the 50-200 and the 50-200 is a fair bit smaller than a 100-400L.

... I will not buy another Olympic product if my only choice is a m4/3.

E-3 and E-30

+1 from me. But I would also like to see better C-AF performance to support shooting birds in flight better than the E-5.

Yes! E50 please. As an E 620 user I am ready to upgrade to better body but not an E5 size. Willing to wait another 2 years or if no such thing come out I am willing to buy EM5 at a discounted price:-D Just wish by another 2 years m4/3 will have something like 12-50mm f2.8-3.5.

My E-3 says yes.
It want's a big brother... Not a little sister ;-)

I would like an E-X body with a 20mp sensor and a much improved continuos focusing mechanism. That I would buy, for $1400 or less.

As I type this, Canon 7D's are going for $1400, the last of the 5D Mk II's are $1800 USD, and the Nikon D7000 selling for under $1000 USD. The day of the $1700 4/3 camera is over.

But I would also like to see a return of the 600 series bodies, for those who cannot afford to pay for the E-X size, or who simply want a smaller camera.

I would absolutely buy an Pro-level DSLR with a modern and competitive sensor.

I have always thought the 4/3rds philosophy was ideal with regard to sensor size, telecentricity and camera/lens portability/size. We are finally at a point, with the evolution of sensor technology, were the 4/3rds philosophy can really show its advantages with regard to size and image quality. I know the financial picture is precarious for Olympus but if they really are serous about catering to the DSLR/Pro-DSLR population there is no better time, then now, to bring to the table a DSLR that will highlight the very reason why Olympus was a founding member of the 4/3 standard.

..

The R&D expense of an E7 will be pretty small if it is based on the E5 body. Drop in the new sensor and the new 5-axis IS, add the latest processing engine and you're done.
Plus AF. Basically you are talking about the entire new camera, you can keep the shell. And at the end who is it for?

Thank you. Yes I would order an E-5 with E-M5 sensor right away.

I already sent a letter asking for some improvements about two weeks ago. All I got is more or less a standardized reply.

Same I did on Olympus on Facebook. I entred a few posts asking for an E-5 with E-M5 sensor.

Olmypus confirmed that they will forward my request and suggestions to the development department.

Cheers
Martin

Any further improvements over the EM5 sensor would be even better!

The scientific nature of the ordinary man, is to go out and do the best that he can. - John Prine

Has to fully support FT lens capabilities and correct size to feel right.

No objections to a new E-7 for those that want it, but I'm waiting for an EVF camera with focus peaking.

I'm waiting for a ft body, I want a ft body, E7, E77, E777, E77777... call it as you want but ft body :-)
