Whooohoooo! Snagged me an A65 for a song from Ritz (open box + liquidation). I used to have an A700 years ago until I tragically destroyed it. Hopefully, this one will fare a little better. I've been restricted to a travel zoom P&S lately, so this feels like heaven.

Here's some of my first shots with cheap plastic lenses. It's all good except the @#$$ movie button drives me crazy!!!

Thanks for viewing!

Really nice! The surf shot is excellent - thanks for posting the lens/info.

From what I've seen, the close-out prices weren't much of a deal. I went in Thursday to have lunch with one of the sales people and in looking at the prices the cameras weren't really marked down at the location I went to. They rest of the merchandise was marked down 40-50%, but the cameras didn't show the percentage of the mark down.

Since there isn't much margin on the cameras, they probably started out the sale by selling at full MRSP, looking to snag those who get in a frenzy when they see 'Close Out, Everything Must Go." then over the next few weeks mark the cameras down to their original sales price.

Even the clerk admitted to this.

Nice. what was the percentage off?

Good question. I don't even recall the list price. All I do is compare the B&H price. To me that's the target to beat. In this case it was well below, so am happy.

At most, I suppose it was 25-30% of Ritz's list. But I didn't see anything in the store (of real value) that was 40-50% off. That is complete bullsh*t.

congrats...i know how you feel...felt that way with the a100 when i got it used(couldnt afford a set-up knowing i would want more than a basic lens..went through three great bridge cameras...and i grew up on a k1000 and an om2n along with a bit of gear to go with it.wooo-hooo,!!good deal and great captures....brian

Really nice pictures esp the first three. I liked the second one the best.

Maybe I should swing by the nearest Ritz camera to check out for deals on Lenses.

Very nice deal and awesome pictures!

Quick question, did you get the SLT-A65 or the SLT-A65V? The latter one being the one with the built in GPS sensor.

What I've seen over and over again with going out of business "sales" is that they sell the contents of the store to an outside liquidation company. At that point, they put up banners saying they have massive discounts but the items are actually priced as high or higher than anywhere else. Then the consumer also doesn't get a return policy of any kind. I'm not saying that is what Ritz camera did, but I have seen it countless times over the years.

Back to the original topic, I have had my SLT-A65V for a few months now. I went from a Pentax K20d to a NEX-3, the A65 is a blast to use and easily takes much better pictures than both of the others.

How did you manage to destroy an A700 then thing is built like a soviet era tank?

They only sell the SLT65V in the US market.

"When I warned [the French] that Britain would fight on alone, whatever they did, their Generals told their Prime Minister and his divided cabinet: 'In three weeks, England will have her neck wrung like a chicken.

"Some chicken....Some neck!

I dropped/flung it about 5 ft. onto concrete. The body of the camera looked just fine. The whole mirror box thingamagigie was broken inside of the camera. The cost of repair was about as much as another A700 (by then it had been discontinued by Sony and they were hard to obtain). One of the darker days in my photographic life.

I saw a 18-135mm lens for $424.00. Good price, but if you add sales tax it doesn't beat B&H with free shipping. Maybe one more week of price drops . . .

Great Photos. Seeing how I purchased my A65 Kit for $915 I looked at it this way the lens sells for $200 so I got my Camera Body for $700. So you got a Fantastic deal you got the Camerabody for $500.

Have Fun Welcome to the A65 Fold.

Thanks
Joe
