I have decided that the decision to buy the D100 or the S2 goes to the S2 because it supports my Nikon SB26 flash.

I want to be sure: can anyone confirm that the low light assist, power zoom, and TTL will work on the S2 just like they do on my N90?

Thanks in advance!

I do not believe the two cameras are using these functions in the same way. The N60 body of the D100 and the Fuji S2 are definitely not a F90.
I suggest to compare the brochures on both bodies.

If the S2 supports the SB26, so will the D100. Both camera bodies work much the same.

The ability to use the SB26 was one of the reasons I purchased the S2 over the D100 - the other being the low light performance of the S2.

I've been using the SB26 with my S@ and love it!

I still carry my N90 (us version of the F90) for those times when I need my ultra-wide lenses to perform as ultra wide lenses or where the dust and dirt are so bad that I don't want to be changing lenses on the S2.

The following picture of my son, Lars, was taken during my last visit to Germany where my ex-wife now lives. Since I only get to see him and his sister 3-4 times each year, the pictures of my babies take on a special importance in my life. I'm having this one framed for my office.

Camera = Fuji S2 (RAW)
Raw converter = Fuji Raw file converter ex
Flash = Nikon SB-26
Lens = Nikon 17-35mm @ 21mm
Exposure - 1/60 @f 9.5
ISO = 100
Exposure Mode= auto
Metering = center weighted average
Shooting Mode = Aperture-priority Auto Standard

Edited in Photoshop to remove bugger (Bortzeman), resized, changed mode to 8-bit, sharpened, saved as jpg for posting on the web.

The S2 Pro and D100 are both based on the F80(N80), not the F60(N60) and whilst they are pretty similar in the functions they support, one of the differences is the support for the SB26 (and SB28) TTL exposure system. The S2 works with it, the D100 doesn't. The S2 also operates the focus assist and zoom heads of the SB26 and SB28.

True - but the S2 works

I don't think that's true - the Nikon D100 does not support the SB26 (TTL) but requires the newer nikon D-TTL flash units.

Thom Hogan is probably the one to ask on this one

It works just fine. I have been able to use mine without a problem. I use BD24's 25 , 28 as well. I just don't like the D100. If for no other reason that it doses not a PC sync.

You are right and I meant N80 (of course) not N60.
Too many numbers to remember and I hope it did not lead to confusion.

Thanks for the excellent responses. This is just another stupid Nikon marketing move--it probably would have cost very little to support the older SB flashes. I have a $325 US investment in my SB26 flash (about 10 years ago) that still works perfect, so why would I buy a newer DX version that only works slightly better? For that reason alone I will get the S2 intstead of the D100.

charming photo of Lars
he looks like he will be quite the man!

This time, I don't think it was a marketing move. I think there is a fundamental problem with the reflectivity of digital image sensors that has involved both Nikon and Canon having to drop the Off The Film (OTF) metering and replace it with a less satisfactory pre-flash and meter system. Fuji's Super-CCD seems to be able to be used, although the applicable ISO range is restricted (not above ISO400). A definite plus to the S2 which works very nicely with my SB28.
