When will this forum be renamed Sony SLT?

Your argument is baseless. Sony has been selling A mount cameras for 6 years, not two decades and you have no information about SLT sales, only assumptions based on presales ranking charts with a dubious accuracy from a single retailer in the US from a single camera that was just announced.

Plus you're comparing different systems intended for different market segments. P&S cameras outsold all system cameras for many years. That didn't prove anything about the success or failure of system cameras.

Sony greatly increased market share of the A mount in a market segment that was growing fast in absolute numbers as well. They started with less market share than Pentax and about doubled them in the following years. Should that mean the Pentax OVF design was a failure too, now that we're jumping to conclusions? ;)

Lol I could care less what the comparison numbers are between two companies because advertising budgets are apples and oranges. I also never said SLT cameras suck bc they don't sell, poor sales just means they don't apply to a large range of consumers. I think SLT has poor performance bc sony doesn't make a relatively great photo camera. If me or anybody saying that gets you angry then you are too emotionally involved in a brand name and you should reassess your life.

Still can't read. You're claiming poor sales performance without anything to substantiate that claim.

The fact that you think I'm angry is just more proof of the above.

to die out?

Agreed, SLR = "Single Lens Reflex" = pentaprism and moving mirror.
SLR = Single Lens Reflex, why add pentaprism and moving mirror?

A99 still have some sort of mirror and reflect some light to the focusing system, still qualify for a SLR. No need to open a new forum.

Things may be named, but names are not the things**

As for the thread question, never. SLT tech will likely be replaced too soon considering on sensor PDAF is well on it's way. When sony perfects the PDAF in the NEX series, they will have no need for the SLT mirror.
Sooner or later that will happen although that doesn't mean SLTs will stop working. It will also bring the demise of the standard OVF DSLR closer.

the Nikon 1? Don't the two cameras qualify as a DSLR with an EVF? Or, are you saying that Nikon isn't one of the Big Two .
No because the Nikon 1 is mirrorless. The "R" in DSLR stands for "Reflex" which I believe is a respelling of the word "reflects" for the light reflecting off the mirror. Regardless of where the term came from all reflex cameras have mirrors that reflect light for viewing before the photo is taken.

have one either.

Doesn't matter. The definition doesn't require a pentaprism or moving mirror at all. Many cameras, Hasselblad for example, had no pentaprism or eye level viewfinder at all but instead reflected light to a ground glass which you viewed while holding the camera at about waist level. The pentaprism and eye level viewfinder was and still is an optional accessory. Twin lens reflex cameras had a fixed mirror and a second lens that reflected light up to ground glass that you also viewed at waist level. The SLTs eschew the ground glass for a sensor to allow eye level EVF viewing but the reflex principle is the same.

All these people who come here complaining about a photo and point out its flaws or say it could always be better, are just setting themself up for disappointment daily, or they have found something that allows them to have something to ***** about.. that would be.. the absolute perfection of an image processed by a specific camera.. which for the most part will never exist.. arguing with them is what they enjoy... while a discussion is one thing,, slamming and bad mouthing any manufacturer is what trolls do...

Everyone wants a better camera, but smart people enjoy their camera for all that it is, and not put it down for all that it isn't.

Sony has come a long way in a short time...They have made a lot of cameras in a short period of time and for the most part people enjoy the images they take from their camera, no matter who made it.

For 95 % of all camera users, its about the substance of the photograph.. not the photographic excellence..

Even a shot of a newborn baby with CA is a great photograph, just ask the parents.

Ive captured over 100,000 memories in my career, and they are only the keepers...Discussion
