D600: The Real AF Points Coverage!

Hi

I thought I would take a photo of my Nikon D600 viewfinder with all the focus points lit up (it does this when selecting different focus modes)

If someone could do the same with a D800 - Then we would have compare, to get the definitive conclusion of focus point coverage between the two cameras.

Or...

"and you've got the U2 (mode) which brings out a Siri-like Bono in your camera"

I sure there will be many that hate this guy, but it sure beats an "unboxing" video! Made me nervous though bouncing around all over the city holding it with one hand.

Cheers

found this D800 viewfinder screen online:

it is larger, but not by much.

Hi! I found this new video review on Nikon D600
You can see the real af points coverage from 7:02 to 7:10
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPgAWKVB8U8&feature=youtu.be&t=7m2s

I took some screenshots from the FullHD version of the video:

Looks awful in my opinion. And no I do not think the D700 or D800 are great either but they are the absolute minimum I could tolerate. If you like negative space, forget the D600 unless you want to focus and recompose. Not really appropriate though at close range and it f/1.4 is it? Also the camera has some stupid flaws that didn't have to be there. Video no changable aperture without going in and out constantly? Come on...

Your shot was a bit skewed so I drew my selection box across the diagonal from top left to bottom right. D3s in red, D600 in black.

Okay, looks like you're missing one column's worth of points on the edges and one row on the outer banks. The center section is a bit tighter-clumped, too.

Here is the D3s against the DigitalRev video grab:

D3s in red, D600 in black. Pretty much the same as above. These two images should settle the matter, I think.

How did you take the viewfinder photo ?
I curious, I would like to try it myself.

Thanks
Martin

I overlay the actual VF images, and they line up perfectly/the same as the images I posted a few days ago:
It's not much less coverage than the D800/D4.

I'm amazed that there are some people who could think that the D600 VF coverage is an abject failure, but the D800 is good. Truth is it's hardly going to matter (but neither are as good as a D300 or D7000).

I posted this in another thread, but I'll add it here as well.

Your comparison seems to be showing d800's af a bit too small. Try comparing it with these:

d600's af layout however is correct and in line with this pic:

From what I see, the comparison done by rednefed is the closest to the truth and is in line with what you get by comparing the views shown in the manuals:
