Just curious, Firts Camera You had or still have?

I used to work in a Camera shop and had access to all the kit you could want. I re-sat exams at night school to go to Napier College in Edinburgh to do photography (HND). I could not resist the temptation to have the camera of my dreams and got into major hock getting an A1, AV1 and several lenses. My debt was so much I had to ditch the college!

I was a beautiful camera though and that FD 100 2.8 was 'the' lens!

Kodak Brownie - 5 bucks and an airway store in Indianapolis when I was about 8. It took 120 film. Nope - don't have it.

2nd - Germain made Realist (known for their stereo cameras but this one was a normal 35mm) sneider lens - no light meter - 9.95 cents. I was 12. I also started making pics in my dad's darkroom then with it and borrowed a light meter he didn't need. (1968) This had a leaf shutter.

3rd Konica Rangefinder with built in meter

4th Pen F SLR - wow - interchangable lenses. I had the 1.4 and an Olympus zoom

etc etc etc

I have none of my historical cameras, just my E10, D60, and 1Ds now. There is an minolta film point and shoot in the family but I think it's broke.
Hey,
Just for fun and curiousity.

Canon RM (Canon's first SLR) - Long Gone

A-1
AE-1
Pellix
T-90
EOS-650
EOS-A2e

That's right, a "Snappy". My parents purchased this gem for me when I was young - Pop Photo did an article a few years ago covering the worst cameras ever made and "Snappy" was worthy of a write-up and a photo too. After my Snappy, I moved on to a Pentax ME Super and from there to Canon and the rest is history.

Hi Ari,
My first camera, which I still have, was/is a "Ciro 35" made
by Graflex of New York around 1952. I recieved it as a Christmas
gift when I was 13 years old, which was a long time ago.

Take care, George...

My first camera was a Kodak pocket instamatic 100, and now i have Eos 33 and Canon D-60

My first camera was an Exakta--shows you how old i am.
Stan
I had :
  • EOS 300 (film)
  • EOS 30 (film)
  • Powershot S20
  • Powershot G2
  • EOS D60
And I still have the EOS 30, D60 of course, and the G2 (very nice
camera for party when I don't want to take the big and heavy
D60...) ;-)

Hi Juli,

I also used my dad's 4x5 Speed Graphic to shoot yearbook photos in high school. Did all the developing and enlarging in our kitchen late at night because it had to be dark and I had to be out by breakfast.

Other than Brownies, my first 35mm camera was an Argus C3. That
dates me. I received it for a 9th grade graduation gift. I also
had previously used my dad's Speed Graphic 4 x 5 for shooting
basketball for my junior high newspaper.

Leica iif, 1957. Literally used the iif until the Coolpix 900 came out, then CP950, CP990 and Whammo! the D60. Now I can do everything I always wanted to do with the Leica and couldn't (long lenses, color printing, dropping the D60 on the ground...)

Very true. I shot with nothing but a 50mm prime for nearly 30 years. Didn't get my first zoom til 10 years ago. Although I mostly shoot very wide or very tele now, I don't see too much lacking when I look back through 30 years of slides at 50mm.
  • DL
I think you learn a lot about composition and seeing
shots by only carrying around a 50 prime.

My first camera was a pentax MX that was stolen in 1978. Bought a AE-1 with the insurance money and have been with canon ever since. Went from AE-1 to AE-1 Program to a EOS 630, next to the EOS 3 and finally the D60. I stil have all of my Canons.

Fujica ST 605 manual camera - everyone should use a manual SLR. Great way to learn about photographic principles. Still works perfectly.

Canon A1 - quite simply the best camera i've ever used. I still have it and it's now 25 years old.

Canon AE1 - great backup for the A1 still going strong

Pentax Z5n - small easy to use AF SLR

Sony S85 - My first digital camera died in a pool of cement

Canon G2 - Still love it. Who needs 5 mpxl?

Next......

Digital SLR sometime in 2003

Regards
Rob
