I have placed (its the next to last picture on the page) a high quality (Jpg at 100%) 1600 X 2048 copy of the free Photodisc test picture download for color printers. It has an imbedded resolution of 200 dpi and prints out nicely on a single sheet of 8 1/2 X 11 glossy photo paper at 8 inches X 10.24 inches provided you use Photoshop, Photoimpact, Paint Shop Pro or some other quality photo editing program that will recognize the imbedded resolution setting. The photo is a 1.9 meg download ..

Best regards,

Bob,

When visiting you photos, I noticed some motorcycle pics. Do you own a cycle? Very nice pictures on your album!! Wish my Nikon pics were that good!

Roln,

I do own a motorcycle - a Yamaha 650 - but I don't get to ride much anymore - Those motorcycle pics on my web page were taken at an outdoor motorcycle show in June. It was cloudy bright out - no shadows - almost perfect conditions for taking outdoor pictures - Its easy to take a good picture when the light is right.

One other thing - I BRACKETED almost every exposure taken on my web page and selected the best one. Too many people just leave the camera on auto and expect the camera to get it right every time. After nearly 2000 digital pics with my Oly C-3030Z I have found that it (at least this particular camera) takes a high percentage of pictures just a hair darker than I would like. Frequently a +.3 or +.7 exposure works out better with this camera. The two pictures of the classic Norton I have on my page were taken with PLUS exposures.

Best regards,

Bob

Bob,

Gordon,

The picture came from the free FTP download site of Photodisc Inc. at ..

ftp://ftp.photodisc.com/pub/test_targets/

Unfortunately it is compressed as a "sit" file ( sit extension I believe stands for "stuff it") and you must download and install a "sit" expander program at ..

ftp://ftp.aladdinsys.com/pub/pc/Expander_for_Windows/

to decompress it - What I did was to make it easier for the average guy to download it from my picture web site at 200 dpi as a jpg file. That way they do not have to go throught the bother of finding a "sit" expander on the net, downloading it, installing the expander, decompressing the picture etc.

I had one person Email me who didn't know how to DOWNLOAD the picture from my site - Once you have the picture on your screen RIGHT click on it and then "Save picture as " - give it a name and SAVE it. Then print it out of Photoshop or some other photo editing program. This printer test photo is again the next to last picture on my picture web page at ..

Jer,

I DO use an Epson 870 - I use the high quality (slower printing speed) and I have the Photoenhance and the digital camera setting checked.

I downloaded the test picture, then opened it in PaintShop Pro and printed it on my 1270. But it comes out blurry. Did I skip a step?

Thanks for your help.

My printer is printing blues as purples. Too much red. I'm hoping this will help.

Thanks

Dave,

The counter on my picture web page tells me that over 1000 people have gone to my picture website and downloaded the printer test photo - You are the only person who has said that it does not print out correctly. Dave, Does the picture look Ok on your screen ? - If so then it may be a problem with your printer ?? It is just a normal jpg picture file and should print out OK. If it is coming out blurry on the screen also then maybe it got garbled up when it was downloaded. If you still have problems, give me your Email address and I will attach the file to an email and send it to you directly. Below is a description from Photodisc, Inc. on how this image was created.

The image started with industry standard targets from Gretag MacBeth, Heidelberg and Kodak. We assembled the targets and collection of elements in a foam core box to cast subtle shadows. The box was lit with a bank of 5500û Kelvin fluorescent on the left and a large fill card on the right side. It was then photographed with a Better Light 6000 digital scanning back on a Cambo 4 x 5 view camera. Although the camera is capable of 6000x 8000 pixels or 137 mb file we cropped it to just under 100 mb. It actually captured the original scene at 130 pixels per inch. The faces on the bottom of the target are from PhotoDisc Signature Series #16 ÔEveryday PeopleÕ photographed by Barbara Penoyar.

Thanks Bob.

I just realized that I had downloaded the thumbnail, and not the enlarged image. No wonder it was blurry. I guess I wasn't thinking very clearly.

I printed it out on my 1270 and it is sharp as a tack. Thanks again for your help and for posting this useful tool.

Ahh... I see Thanks for the work. I for one appreciate your taking the extra step to save me from another decompressor.

Thanks for the test picture. I'm curious, on the Kodak Color Control patches on my monitor it looks purple where it says blue...and it prints exactly the same way. I've never recalibrated my monitor to my printer (haven't really been able to understand instructions about doing so) so is it that both my monitor and printer are wrong or is that blue purple (looks that way on the website and in photoshop. The vase looks blue to me, as does the "h" block) Is there something I need to know about how to interpret if those color charts are showing correctly?

Thanks,

Ty

The lower darker blue patch on the Kodak Color Control Patch looks true blue to me - but the upper less saturated "blue" patch looks a little purple to me also. That test picture is unaltered in any way straight from the Photodisc, Inc. free FTP download site. Those colors are as dead on as could be. They print out virtually indentical on my Epson 870 printer as what I see on my Cornerstone p1401 19 inch monitor.
