Anyone see the leaked pics of the full-frame mirrorless Sony RX1?
This thing looks like the love child between the X100 and the new A99.

I understand the newer Sony OLED EVF tech will be incorporated into the new X-E1, but a lot of Fuji's styling apparently rubbed off onto the RX1, no?
Perhaps some kind of trade-off in kind?

They learned from the success of the X100. This RX1 has its own market now as there's really nothing competing with it.

IMO it looks great. That's a compact lens which has world class performance, no doubt. Many people here will dismiss it simply for the lack of a viewfinder. But I heard viewfinders can be attached on the hotshoe. A flip out LCD is enough for me. Although the price will probably be out of my budget.

I hope this is the stepping stone for more future compact FFs. Death to FF? I think not.

No doubt!

I just saw an overlay of scaled images (RX1 and Panny GX1)

The Sony sits just inside the perimeter....incredible for FF!

There's practically a laundry list of design cues with a heavy nod to Fuji.

1) Front-mounted focus mode switch - check.
2) EV comp dial - check.
3)Off-on/shutter combo w/QR threads? - check.
4) Flatter, attached leatherette grip - check.
5) All black X-like finish - check.

Am I missing anything else?

yes, you do miss it, although this is glaringly obvious:

0) no revolutionary, hybrid VF (wait... no VF at all :( !!!) - un-check

That's a good thing! Are you sure Fuji didn't take cues from this

Well, I'm not sure about a "laundry list of cues".

The grip on the X-Pro1 and X-E1 grip looks nearly identical to the one on the Olympus E-P1, which was released several years earlier than either camera.

The design isn't unique, and doesn't actually look much like the Fujis at all. Heck, I think it looks very "Samsung NX".

An all-black paint job is very commonplace for a serious camera: Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Sony, etc.

I just can't see the point of FF any longer.

The IQ from latest APS-C sensors is nothing short of astounding, and this is only going to get better and better very rapidly.

For me I can do without having to lug around unnecessarily heavy and bulky equipment.

However, I concede there is still demand in the market for FF but I don't think this will last long, not mainstream anyway.

Cheaper, lighter, quicker, equally as high res, less bulky equipment that can deliver the same if not better IQ then who in their right mind would still want FF?

Not me.

Cheers

True, that.

I'm leaning more towards the X-E1 coupled with the 23 F1.4 when it becomes available.

Yes...
The omission of an integrated VF (OVF or EVF) was obvious, for sure.
And it will probably cost Sony some sales too!
Allthough there are rumoured OVF & EVF hot shoe attachments planned as well.
This Photokina is gonna be really interesting....

Full-on top down sexy Hexy!
Yes...who stole from whom?
(It'll never be answered!)

Agree.

Glad photography world is different with those smartphone and tablet world. Otherwise, there would have been many sues over claims of patents infringements. We already heard some, but not as silly and ridiculous as the present battle between Apple and Samsung.

Or I can say roughly, glad Apple doesn't make cameras, so they are not here to sue anyone. Haha... no offense. Don't get me wrong, they make great products, but the way they take to reduce the competitions is just all beyond imagination.

The point is better iq and smaller debth of field.

And larger pixels, improved crops, better low light performance, larger aperture, faster shutter speeds, etc etc.

Aps-c has improved leaps & bounds plenty atiquite for most jobs, but FF is still the champ.

That being said- I applaud Sony tremendously for this camera. First company to bring a compact FF tithe market(besides Leica). Like it or not, it WILL force other companies to put out a FF to compete against it, which benefits all of us who have been screaming for one since Leica released the M9.
Exciting times are ahead!

You prob don't want to live in our global economy then.

Protecting your intellectual property is far from 'reducing the competition'. Not that the competition - er, all competition - wouldn't try to reduce the rest, if capable.

Now, if you think all things created should be free and open source - and thus no one should be able to make a living from their creations - then you can make that argument. I'm listening, for one.

But it's a very hard argument to make that Samsung (and many others) haven't borrowed liberally from Apple's designs (not that that's new or unique) and made $$ from them. Perhaps you think Apple borrowed from others likewise?

But, characterizing Apple as (only) 'reducing the competition' is an entirely diff prospect than protecting their IP, which is quite an old endeavor.

Sorry, just responding to the previous poster's inclusion. I agree, I find it annoying.
PLEASE TAKE YOUR SAMSUNG VS APPLE DEBATE ELSEWHERE!

That news is soooooo ooooold and annoying to read everywhere. It's the number #1 off-topic subject in the world, I guarantee it.

I actually don't see a lot of similarity. I certainly see as much/more with other camera brand's recent offerings. It looks more like something small that Nikon or Canon have announced/released lately

If Apple make cameras, we would have FF in NEX-7 body with touchscreen, wi-fi, GPS, IBIS in 2007.

If Samsung won, we would all be using Samsung GX10 with lot of bugs and planned obsolescence every 6 months.
