Anybody have any recommendations for online sites for prints that provide excellent value (quality/cost)?

Do these sites also provide storage/album capabilities?

Hey Buddha,

I found some online reviews before I tried them, and I've had good results with Photoaccess.com. Colors are good, and the quality is high - prices seem reasonable. I will order from them again in the future.

The only complaint I have is that they seem a little bit dark to me.

They're the only place I've gotten prints from - just in case, anyone else have any good places to try?

I'm in Canada (but they ship to the USA too) and I use futurephoto.com (from Future Shop).

They use Fuji Frontier on Noritsu printers with Kodak Royal photo paper. They offer web based and independent software solutions to send your pics. They also offer free online space to share albums and let relatives and friends order their own prints.

You can pick up your prints yourself or have them sent by mail or other courier service.

Prices are good, service is fast and quality is excellent.

I would recommend Sam's Club http://www.samsclub.com for photos. They charge 24 cents for a 4x6 and $1.98 (I think) for an 8x10. You don't have to be a member to upload your pictures over the internet, and then they mail them to you and you get them in about 4 days.

If you want to make gifts out of your photos, I recommend shutterfly.com. They make high quality calendars and greeting cards and the like.

I can't say enough about Costco. At $.19/4x6 you can't find a better value. I have started using them since after the holidays. I have printed a total of over 100 4x6 and I am very impressed with the quality. In the past, I have used Photoaccess.com and Epixel.com. However, for $.45/4x6 plus s/h at Photoaccess.com, I find Costco gives me much better value. There are couple drawbacks with Costco - 1) you have to be aware of how their Noritsu machines work. These machines tend to "washout" the pictures by 1 to 2 Fstop. Knowing this, all I have to do is oversaturated, overcontrasted and underexposed (make them darker) my pictures a little through Photoshop. Once I do this, the prints are very consistent. 2) Most Costco only do Glossy prints for digital image. There are some but very few that will do Lustre/matte prints. I was able to find one in Southern CA but it's 1 hour away from where I live. For now, I am happy with the glossy.

I don't use Epixel.com anymore for 2 reasons: 1) it takes the company over 2 weeks to print my pictures and 2) the color is not as accurate as I would like.

I have tried Snapfish.com and Shutterfly.com with good results. Shutterfly was the fastest. Both of their services are kind of expensive though, compared to Costco, Sam's Club, etc.

I just checked-out Photoworks.com. They're offering .19 a picture and the first 24 for free.

All three of these sites offer some number for free to start. It's worthwhile to try them out since shipping is typically under $2.

I went to Costco's Web site. However, the only thing I found there
about digital photos is they seem to be teaming with Kodak and offereing
$.24/4X6. I wasn't able to find the $.19/4X6 price you mentioned.

I have been using ClubPhoto.com for over 6 months. I have been VERY happy with their work. At 25¢ per print, a unique 4XD size as a choice (instead of 4X6), and priniting on Kodak paper, they satisfy my everyday needs.

Shipping price is based on multiples of 30 prints. I usually order in multiples close to 30, 60, 90, etc. to mazimize the shipping charges. With shipping, per print costs are still below 30¢ per print.

They have handled two large/unusual orders I have placed with them over the last 6 months PERFECTLY, along with accurate handling of my normal everyday orders.

I also checked out Ofoto, Snapfish, Shutterfly and DotPhoto along with ClubPhoto.com. For the price point I wanted to be at, along with the quality of print I desired, ClubPhoto.com had it all!

Just like the paperless society that has not come with the heavy use of computers in our world, the printless society is not coming my way with digital photography. I enjoy photography from its simple snapshot level to beautiful composed and created prints. I like prints of everydaty events as well as creative compositions. I see photography as a hobby and an art form. I do alot of printing since digital has almost replaced my film camera. I use a Canon S40 and have access to a G2 as well through my work. ClubPhoto is satisfying all my needs at this point.

Give them a try...good luck!

Hi George: Thanks for your feedback about ClubPhoto. Since you are also using an S40, can you provide me some feedback on the following...

I had my first batch of pics from my S40 developed by Sam's Club (Walmart). They all came back underexposed. All the pics were taken in Auto mode outside in the sun, or inside with lights on and the flash. The technician said they do not do any preprocessing and blaimed it on the camera. To me, the pics look fine on the camera's LCD and also on my monitor. I then sent the same pics to ShutterFly and Snapfish. Both developed them fine, although Snapfish's were a little darker than ShutterFly's, but still okay. Should I have to post process my pics before having them developed or should I just choose a different developer than Sam's Club?

I'll second that for FuturePhoto. In Canada I've tried others such as Walmart, Costco and Black's but found FuturePhoto's service and print quality to be excellent. BTW, Black's print quality was also very good but I found them a little darker than expected.

Both...I have never used Sam's Club, but you did feel that Shutterfly did a better job. I think the online digital processors are more focused (oooh!) on producing a better print. Also, post processing is essential. I use PhotoShop 6.0 and usually run all my files through it before I upload them to ClubPhoto.com. I am not an expert, but in PS I generally adjust the levels and use the unsharp mask filter on each file. I'm still reading and learning more and more about PS. Post processing has "cleaned up" many images, improving them very slightly to very dramatically.

Good luck.

I also used clubphoto, well run place.

but the quality of photos was terrible, very flat washed out, poor color saturation, very poor contrast. I sent them high quality post-processed images only. they looked better on my cheap printer (hp) than on photo paper.

it seems to me from all that i've seen here that the only way to go if you are concerned about quality is with a fuji machine, i believe sams and walmarts uses that, i plan to try sams next.

Thanks George. I did the same last night with a batch of photos that I'm sending to Photoworks.com for development. I'm hoping that they will come out better than the others and their current rate is .19 a picture.

Thang,

You may want to use a profile for your Costco's Noritsu printer. This way you will get the colors and brightness accurate. Take a look at http://www.drycreekphoto.com

--I have been happy with OFOtO. I had a 10x30" print made by them, many 4x6" and some 5x7" One thing I have learned though is to crop my photos before sending them in so I know what will be cropped out. I do a number of edits in PS using an action I put together resulting in 300ppi, 4x6" jpg, sRGB, USM sharpened (and faded to luminosity) prints for snapshots. They are not the cheapest and their services are somewhat limited--I wish they offered bound albums-but I have been happy with them. They do offer on line albums and an address book for inviting people to view the photos you want them to see. Delivery in about 4 days. I have not tried the others.
