Hello,

I have seen the threads about portable photo storage solutions. I have an older 2.5 GB hard drive from an old PC that is being used for nothing. Unfortunately, it seems that the x-drive and the like only accept 2.5 inch laptop type hard drives. Does anyone know of one that accepts hard drives from PC's? Right now, my PC is not working, and I need somewhere to store my photos, other than in the smartmedia card. Thanks for any info.

I think Sam's Club will burn your files to disk (if you have them printed) you may want to check it out until you get your PC fixed.

I just don't think 2.5GB is big enough as a portable storage. Beside, hard drives (for a desktop or laptop) are dirty cheap now, so I'd certainly get one that's at least 10GB. And the 2.5 inch laptop type is smaller in physical size and lighter, too as you do want to carry it with you, right?

You have to have something like an image bank, which has a hard drive, a slot for your memory cards, and the built in electronics to copy one to the other.

It is technically possible for someone to manufacture a device that allows a hard drive or CD writer to connect to a camera, but I'm not aware of anyone making such a thing (other than a computer, which of course can do that).
Hi!
Is it really possible to connect a harddrive direct to the camera?
Is it possible to connect a USB CD-burner to the camera?

Thanks Eric, I thought so also, but I hoped for another answere!

...Guess it's the same answere for Iomega Zip-drivers then also?

Yes, that will be No too :-) You can't connect any USB storage devices to a camera, you need something that has a built-in card reader (like Digital Wallet, Phtotoshow, Archos JUkebox etc).

Jochum...I'd guess you don't have an Office Depot where you live but for someone else that's interested in the Fotoshow they might get lucky and find one as a clearance for under $100 - I did a couple months ago.

Yes, but the Iomega PhotoShow has a card reader and a ZIP drive,
and it also can hook up to your TV to show slide shows. They don't
make them anymore though.

I can't even find the word Office Depot in my dictionairy! ;-) ...But I can guess, I think I like to buy something fresh rather than secondhanded. I threw away a mail to my Photodealer about this today to see if they will take it in, this sounds interesting I think, yesterdays news here at dpreview: The SimpleTech 60GB SimpleDrive Deluxe External Storage Solution

Cheers!

I'm afraid this is not it - it's just a portable hard drive to which you download photos from your computer - no direct card/camera interface.

Darn, again! Yes, you might have right Misha, it does not actually stand anything about connection to a camera, they just give me the impression of it talking about external solution, USB and many thousends pictures... Grrr...
