Hey lads and lassies.

I spent a few days of my summer holiday on the island of Colonsay, a southern Hebridean revelation (my first trip there) that, if you travelled on a good breeze west would deliver you, finally and without interruption, on Newfoundland shores.

This photo however is of the bigger, emptier island of Jura to the east which I wanted to capture in the dusk-light. The coast in the picture has no habitation or roads and is reachable only by sea.

My quiz query is: what 3 things (left of centre) are identifiable in the sea in the middle distance??? Clues will follow.

Not that I can make anything out, but having camped wild on Islay (opposite island with 7 distilleries :)) I'm going to say Seals.

I would say, because of the "clue" below, that the three things is three empty whisky bottles!

I can only see 3 specks - I thought it was dust blobs on my screen until I scrolled - so not able to identify anything.
However, given the location, I might go out on a limb and say Killer Whales? :)

HMS Astute, snorkeling en route to Stornoway?

Because of clues like whisky and little concerns, I would say some drunken islanders swimming back home, because it's cheaper than by boat!

Not been up that way since 2002, it's a wonderful place if the weather behaves.

I'm going for

1 - A Gannet (bottom left)
You can see a shadow on the water so looks like a larger sea bird
2 - dolphin/porpoise
Gannets often follow them
3 - a grey seal
Seems to be bobbing on the surface

All however could be a combination of buoys, seaguls and/or an escaped nessie.

Nessies are reasonably common in the Western Isles, usually spotted on the way back from the pub.

Cetorhinus maximus or Basking sharks.

I'm no expert but the snout tip protruding followed by dorsal fin, Western Isles, summer and the plankton clue all gave it away.
