(SR5) HOT! Sony NEX-5R and NEX-6 images leaked!!!

Too bad they put that stupid conventional accessory shoe on the 6---a design dating back to the early Leica, where it was only expected to hold a little optical finder. The Minolta shoe was designed from scratch to carry flash units.

It looks like a step backwards in terms of dials. NEX-7 nails it with the combination of two unlabeled dials plus the wheel. It looks like Sony is either concerned about cannibalizing NEX-7 sales, or they can't tell a good thing when they see it, and think the way forward is "retro".

I was looking at the photos also. I really liked the NEX-6. Although I don't think it has a navigation button. To me it looks like a regular SLR (P, A, S, M, 2 Auto modes, scene, and movie) top dial which is perfect with me anyway. The only thing I don't like is the '1920 style hot shoe (but no one is perfect).

Regarding the NEX-5R although it seems to have a navigation button I actually don't like the camera mainly due to its F3 style articulating LCD. And just due to this feature which I don't like, or want, I never ever even consider it no matter the price or the rest of the specs.

Now... The NEX-6 looks like a keeper.

It looked like there is a PASM on top and on the bottom is a navi dial I don't know might be wrong

below the nex-6 mode dial, is most likely a second navi wheel! pretty ingenious. plus, the movie button placement may finally put those accidental movies to rest.

the 5r however, has no built-in flash, like the f3, why?

Yeah I'm glad that they did put the PSAM dial in NEX-6.

Interesting the it seems to have only one electrical contact: the flash sync.

The camera has built in wi-fi, so I smell a new radio wireless flash control system.

16 Megapixel APS-C sensor with Phase Detection AF pixels

Better AF has been my #1 request. While I am excited about a full frame NEX, I could easily just upgrade to the 5R or 6 if the AF is that much improved.

The rumor says NEX-6 has "APP" support. What might that mean? Apps could be downloaded to the camera? If so I wonder what kinds of Apps might be available? Would they add useful photographic features to the camera? Or would it be about social networking and e-commerce? Or what?

Take a picture, it'll last longer.

It's great that they are improving on the NEX-5/5N design without abandoning it. I have a feeling that they consider that design the conceptual core of the NEX system, or at least one of them. If I had to describe it in a phrase it'd be "minimalist/modular enthusiast camera".

It also seems pretty obvious that the NEX-7 (and now 6) is a new conceptual core, perhaps stated (almost defined in opposition to the 5/5N/5R concept) of "traditional/integrated enthusiast camera".

I would almost bet that APPs are going to come from Sony only and that most will have a cost. Moreover, I suspect that some of the things that folks clamor for in updates will instead be features that can be purchased. I don't necessarily like this model, but if it means that there is an app that allows bracketing +3/-3 for HDR then I suppose I'd be willing to pay a small sum for it because it's the kind of thing that almost certainly wouldn't show up in an update.

I'm really interested in how they're gonna price the NEX-6... especially considering how cheap the NEX-7 is now (after its recent price reduction). The NEX-6 is clearly aimed somewhere between the 5N and the 7 so it should be really affordable.

Feels like a great time to be invested in E-mount series cameras.

The 5R still has that silly bump around the tripod socket, like the other 5s. Makes it harder to attach a quick-release plate. The 6 has a flat bottom, which is better.

Look at the upper-back view, there are connectors inside the hotshoe.

In some of my cameras the symbol, or sign, that you can see between the M and the SCN (scenes) mode selection in the top dial is the movie mode...

The 6 looks interesting!

One nice thing about the original NEX series was that it was not camera design adapted to a mirrorless technology, but a rethinking of it. There was an aesthetic appeal to the clean minimalistic design. The NEX7 kept it in its own way. I know I for one bought the NEX in part because the design spoke to me, even the fact that it left out some things.

With the 5R/6, I see a bit more of a turn for the conventional. That may be an admission that some camera appendages just make sense, or just one that they can't wish away consumers who will keep insisting on this or that vestige.
