Flash and remote CAN work together thru Y-splitter

WufD0g,

It looks correct to me. I have tried this with the Promaster flash and when both are connected, if I use only the flash it works, or only the remote it works. If I try to use the flash with the remote, the flash goes offline as soon as I press a remote button. Nice drawing by the way. Has anyone tried this with the Sony flash? Does it work?

Has anyone taken some voltage/signal readings with the Sony Flash. I am wondering if a diode on the flash line would solve your problem with the ProMaster.

I have totally disconnected the flash line and the flash still goes offline when a remote button is pressed.

That seems to indicate a software problem with the way the ProMaster is handling the LANC protocol. They are responding to a LANC command that they should ignore. Have you made ProMaster aware of the problem. Good news is that software problems can be fixed. I would think that would be in their best interest.

I read somewhere that someone had cobbled together a LANC interface between the F707 and his PC. A dump of protocol between the camera and the remote might hold the key.

My quick perusal of the protocal seems to indicate that the first few bits of a transfer are a device ID of some sort. I am planning on putting an oscilloscope on the bus to evesdrop on communications between the promaster and the camera. Then if I can come up with a Sony flash, do the same. Then if they look similar with just minor differences I MIGHT try to reprogram the Promaster. It is risky, but you never know. I suspect the Promaster uses the same device ID as the remote whereas the Sony flash uses a different one. I am learning as I go.
