The the second digit being a three or a four, plus the sixth digit being a one has come to light.

This could be very helpful to any potential future purchases, checking the serial before you buy.

Funny Canon has never said anything about the second digit.

It's frightening stuff, I'm glad we have someone with their finger on the pulse of this modern tragedy.
 
As I said, the fact is a manufacturing defect in a grip, is much more palatable than a massive recall due to a design error.
