I have been getting vertical banding correlating with the rollers with my 2200. This is only evident at the upper half of the print, and appears to be due to the ink not drying by the time it hits the rollers. Is there a way to slow down the printer, allowing time for the ink to dry before it hits the rollers? There is a setting relating to drying time but this appears to place a pause between sheets, rather than slowing down the printing itself. Epson offers no assistance in the help system.

Any recommendations appreciated....

Henry,

Have you tried unchecking High Speed in the normal mode? I set my lever on envelope which is the first notch from straight up.

What paper are you using?

I have found this with hp premium plus glossy, KodakUltima high gloss, but not with epson matte that came with the printer. I did uncheck high speed. I tried the envelope setting, ho better...

The roller marks affect the gloss, and interestinglt stop abruptly 3" from the bottom of 11" sheet.

Some people including me have mentioned before, Kodak paper is not compatible with 2200, I never use hp paper, I guest it is the same reason.

Thank you for pointing this out. I will pick up some Epson paper and see how it does - I'm amazed that there is such a difference between the performance in different paper types.

The reason is that the 2200 is a pigment ink printer while everything else is dye based. Pigments behave differently and you have to use a paper that is compatible with pigmented inks. Not all Epson papers are either!!!

Aha, give your HP paper to a friend or use it in your HP printer. I too tried a sheet of HP in my Epson 2200 just to see what the results would be. It left roller tracks and the color was way off. I haven't tried other brands of paper other than Epson, can't help there. I've read some people use Pictorica and Red River, I'll wait to hear from more people and their results.

I see that you've already gotten very good advice. Kodak, HP, OfficeMax, Staples, and Epson Colorlife will all leave track marks unless you're into a lot of tweaking - and why bother when there are so many papers that will work well?

Epson Premium Glossy will not leave track marks, but you can see the ink layering strongly - some people it bothers, some it doesn't (my friends love "the 3-D effect"). All of the other Epson papers (except the two mentioned above) have their fans with 2200 users. The closest I usually get to glossy is Epson Premium Luster, although I'm using up some Premium Glossy and Semi-Gloss. Even the cheap Epson Glossy Photo that's $20 for 100 sheets at Costco will work, but the colors and contrast are a little dull and will need perking up with software (or possibly some custom color management settings, although I haven't tried that).

Where this printer really shines is with non-glossy papers, which is nice because the Epson Archival or Enhanced Matte and Epson Watercolor - Radiant White are quite reasonably priced - but you have to use the Matte Black ink cartridge with them.

There are also many users who like some of the Red River, Pictorico, Tetanol, and other papers. So...there are lots of papers that will work, you just happened to try two of the worst for out-of-the-box prints!
