I'm curious if anyone can recommend a good Photoshop book. Specifically, I'm looking for one that deals with adjusting photos. That may seem obvious, but I'm not looking for a book telling me how to crop, or how to create special text effects, but one that focuses on the enhancing of exising photos. I would venture to say I am looking for a more advanced book.

There are people on this forum that seem to have amazing Photoshop skills. I can certainly do basic things, but it would never occur to me to do things like creating a new hue based layer and use that to ... For example, Joe Reilly posted specific instructions here: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1009&message=4208664 that would have never occured to me at all. Where does one learn these techniques? Yanny also amazed me with his lesson on surrealistic photo manipulation: http://www2.photosig.com/viewarticle.php?id=1177

Thanks for the tips!

I received the Total Training videos as xmas gift. I am too lazy to read :-) but moreover, I find reading recipes very confusing. I found the videos to be excellent and have advanced my skills tremendously vis-a-vis reading. There's a bunch of excellent free sample videos at:

I just received "Photoshop 7 Artistry" and it is a great book. It covers from the basic skills to the most advanced tricks, and about half of its 39 chapters are pretty much hand on stuff. Really recommended.

Best Regards,

Hi

I can recommend the Digital Photography magazine, each month you’ll find inside its pages tips and tricks about digital photographs and Photography.

There is even a free CD each month packed with tutorials and explanations (some of them are Video based tutorials)

There is no site for the magazine, but here is the site of his publication:

Brian,

Covers Photoshop more broadly than just digital photos, but I've still found it to be the best fit (for me). Read my prior recommendation...

Whatever route you take, it will be time well spent! Photoshop stops being a software program and becomes more a trusty sidekick once the initial curve is past.

Not sure if you mean to watch on the PC or that demonstrate usage on the PC. In either case, you're in luck. All you need is QuickTime to watch the videos and its available for the PC. As for demos, the usage is almost identical for the PC -- just think "Ctrl" when he says "Cmd" or "Apple" key. Everything else is pretty much the same.
