Have you seen the slaughter at the Nikon´s D800 forums?

At least we know one thing xenon-mid really must be a paid Nikon employee.

Though he has a small point that the issue has gone viral ala the k5 low light issue where hundreds of 'me too' jump on the bandwagon diluting genuine suffers problem.

The venom he shows to anyone with a problem as a general attack is amusing in the extreme .

Reminds me very much of the sensor stain issue with the K-5 when I purchased mine.

Hi,

It's mayhem there! The force of those defending the D800 out guns the poor blighters who are obviously are having focussing issues, personal insults, claims that Nikon are "paying" people to post false camera issues and anything else you can think of! Frankly it's very unsavoury.
P.S. Most of the complainants have been Nikon users for years and know Nikons!

Wow! Now I don't feel quite as bad about my faulty Pentax gear.

The whole discussion over at the D800 forum sounds so familiar.

What johnbee, no asking the moderators to close down this thread pointing out the sad fate of those poor Nikon users that spent $3k on a camera that does not focus correctly?

I think our buddy is still looking for a D90 that will focus correctly as well...

not good to be happy about others misfortune ...
The term is "schadenfreude", actually. Any yes, it's looking ugly over there. Worse, really, than anything I've seen here or on the Pentax mailing list.

I don't buy into the idea that "xenon-mkd" is working for Nikon. If I were Nikon I'd pay him to switch to Canon. Talk about giving a brand a black eye...

Part of the problem too is many people are upgrading from a D7000 or D300 to a D800, and you have the crop factor difference, depth of field is going to be shallower and at large apertures you will probably be a little softer towards the edge than you would be with APS-C.

Secondly many users are upgrading from a D700. In all likelihood the D700 had the same issues but you don't notice it with 12 MP vs 36 MP.

Thirdly, people are jumping on the bandwagon as already pointed out. People that would never notice they had an issue are seeing them. This is true with Pentax focus issues as well in some cases (but some cases are legit, like some sorts of low light, etc)

Fourthly, people are testing improperly. Get a tripod out, use good light (low incandescent is not a great starting point).

Fifthly, the D800 still rocks and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if I were looking for that type of camera.

Viking, I think you said it well. I especially agree with number 3. People like myself would never have looked for focus issues on the K-5 had it not become the topic of numerous threds here in this forum. At one point I started looking for them myself just out of curiosity, and...well...you can pretty much find anything once you set your mind to it.

It's a kind of hypochondria for photographers. I can just imagine that there are a number of people thinking hey have issues when they actually don't. Not saying there aren't issues, but I've handled the d800 at 4 different camera shops(yes, I am a "fondler") and zooming in on the EVF showed no troubles. 0 troubles in 4 cameras. I was amazed by the image quality. If I had money to burn, I'd probably get one myself.

A scene from the 2001 Space Odyssey, in fact.

But also a notion of warning to camera manufacturers in their craze towards the profits through the insane Megapixel Race: squeezing in so many megapixels on a thin sensor wafer DOES take its toll, and in everyday shooting, cripples the use of a camera.

When the camera is in range of 30+ MPs, every single glitch in focusing, camera shake, etc. is more than visible. Yet does everyone wants to carry on a tripod, in addition to already heavy camera body and lenses? But it becomes almost inevitable for any serious shooting.

Yet stepping down aperture and increasing shutter speeds to compensate is not a cure for it anymore — it cripples creative use of a new system, and everything suddenly becomes a hurdle, which we had to pay even more for. :-)

If only my K5 could AF accurately enough in center point focus to test and see if I had any issues with left side AF points

...when you look at the photos at 100% on screen. However, at the same print size, the glitches will not be more visible than they would be from a camera with fewer megapixels.

Your K-5 doesn't focus accurately? Mine does OK.

That's my own experience of them.

Whilst my views on the K-r might not have won me any fans (but I was simply honest from my own point of view), Nikon have massive problems not just limited to the D800 either.

Ordered a D90 in Jan this year, out of the box the AF was off. 2 service attempts later and it still isn't right. Returned for an exchange with the seller (awaiting the delivery)

Bought another one in the hope of at least having one body that worked ok. Nope that was so far off for AF it was not even funny worst camera I have ever seen for AF that's how bad it was.

This will be my third D90 body. I'm not even sure I want to open the box being honest.

The D7k has had quite a few complaints too which makes that a reluctant option. I'm not sure what's going on with Nikon..but it's not good.
